BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Fighters seeing action in “Battle of Undefeated” successfully made weight, all of them looking in great shape, ready to rumble tomorrow Saturday, March 30, at Gaisano Grand Mall here in Bacolod, the Filipino city known as “The City of Smiles.”
In the main event, unbeaten Cebuano fighter Ariston Aton (7-0, 4 KO’s), now living in Bacoor, Cavite, weighed-in at 106.9 pounds while his skilled and fast opponent John Michael Zulueta (9-0-2, 3 KO’s) made 107.7 lbs ahead of their combat for the vacant IBO Oceania and Oriental Light Flyweight title.
The Aton vs Zulueta clash is the first IBO (International Boxing Organization) title fight ever staged here in the Philippines. The rumble is also a world title clash as the winner earns the right to challenge for the IBO world title crown.
In the co-main feature, 22-year-old southpaw Joepher Montaño (9-4-2, 8 KO’s) of nearby Bago City, Negros Occidental, scaled-in at 136.2 lbs as the more experienced Rodel Wenceslao (13-17-2, 5 KO’s) of Kananga, Leyte, made 136.7 pounds for their battle for the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) Light Welterweight Strap.
In another rumble, Rodel Sioco, in his second pro fight, tipped the GAB scale at 114 pounds, while Gerald Condes came-in at 110.5 for their 4-chapter saga in the super flyweight division.
Plus, local Bacolod warrior Ricky Delos Santos, 19, got 110 pounds for 108 made by smiley rookie Romeo Anselmo Antique. Their scheduled four-rounder promises total action.
Fight Supervisor for the entertaining event is Games and Amusement Board (GAB) Chairman Baham Mitra assisted by Jackie Cacho, Oliver Evangelista and Rex Flores, and Donna Mae Martir, head of GAB’s Bacolod Office.
Supervisor for the IBO is New Zealand’s Steve Scott, Vice President of the IBO for Pacific; and watching over for the Asian Boxing Federation (ABF) are Naris Singwancha and Surapot Pongchiwanich of Thailand.
The entertaining double-header card kicks off the 2019 boxing season in the greater Bacolod area, hometown of former four-division world champion Donnie Nietes who will be in attendance.
“Battle of Undefeated: Ariston Aton vs John Michael Zulueta” for the IBO Oceania and Oriental Title is a production of award-winning promoter Brico Santig of Highland Boxing Team in association with man of boxing former GAB Chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon, and Thailand boxing patron Naris Singwancha, director of the Singwancha Foundation.
