Yordenis Ugas, originally from Santiago de Cuba, defeated Omar Figueroa Jr. by unanimous decision at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas to place himself as challenger to the welterweight crown of the World Boxing Council, whose champion is Shawn Porter.
Ugas already disputed the crown against Porter, losing a close decision in what was a truly great fight.
“The fight against Figueroa was as expected. I fought strong and Figueroa too. I was victorious. I am happy to be able to fight for the WBC title again. It is a dream for me and I will be ready for the winner of Porter vs. Spence Jr. ”
Ugas made a great camp in Las Vegas, and since the bell rang he went to the rapid exchange against the Mexican, a man of much experience and former world champion.
From the first round the superiority of Ugas was very evident. He sent Figueroa sprawling into the ropes (28-1-1, 19 KO) and dominated the entire fight from beginning to end.
