With Anthony Joshua’s shocking Loss and Wilder and Fury remaining undefeated with impressive summer wins – The Fury vs Wilder blockbuster rematch is in the planning and marketing phase.
ESPN is putting all their eggs in the Mega- Fight basket. Top Ranks Head, Bob Arums said Saturday night that Fury/Wilder 2 can do Two Million PPV buys, A day later, he changed it to 4.6 million buys, believing and dreaming of topping Mayweather-Pacquiao. This take might be a bit far fetched but not impossible by any means.
Wilder announced that the fight was already signed / agreed and slated for the first half of 2020. Now that Fury has gotten his feet wet in Las Vegas, the sky is the limit for his stardom. His boxing skills, charisma and inspiration story is second to none. Couple that with the backing of ESPN and the public’s thirst for the next big thing, Fury-Wilder could be the first billion dollar fight. If the ball starts rolling and it turns into an event (similar to the Super Bowl), watch out for this fight.
How can you go wrong with these two fighting each other? You have Tyson Fury who’s worldly boxing skills are almost unfathomable (for his size) against Deontay Wilder who has showed tremendous growth and can put an end to any fight with one right hand shot. Furthermore, if you look at Deontay Wilder’s record on paper- it is stuff of legend. Wilder has KO’d every man he has ever faced in the squared circle.
Fury must have the oddest looking, most deceptive boxing body of all time. And it all works and generates even more intrigue.
In reality the fight might not be even the 5th biggest fight all-time (financially) or the biggest of 2020, but boxing will be in for a treat when these two giants meet again in the ring. The competition will be great, but the ring entrances might steal the show. One thing about boxing that is a constant- you never know.
Don’t forget, we still have Joshua & Ruiz as well.
