Errol Spence Jr. Has Changed:
For the longest time Errol Spence Junior was always a soft-spoken respectful young man. Like fame and fortune has done to countless before him, feeling up the stadium in Dallas has changed Spence’s mind set and most likely work ethic. Spence is currently ranked #2 on Boxing Action Magazine’s P4P list, but don’t be surprised if Porter gives Spence a run for his money. Spence might think that trash talk can win him the fight, he forgot that W’s come in the ring.
Rejuvenating Boxing:
Manny Pacquiao’s performance last Saturday night against the young bull Keith Thurman gave Boxing a huge shot in the arm. It’s pretty amazing to think that even at the age of 40, Manny Pacquiao can still put the entire sport on his back. The board of directors at Boxing Action Magazine took a lot of heat by ranking Pacquiao #3 on the P4P the last few month, and keeping him in the top 10 this entire century so far. We don’t mind being the bad guy, but at the end just remember the rest normally follow suit.
Boxing’s Brutal Truth:
Russia’s Maxim Dadashev died on Tuesday from in ring injuries suffered in last Friday nights fight broadcast on ESPN. Today we learn Argentine boxer Hugo Santillán has unfortunately also passed from the boxing match he had this past Saturday.
Very very sad news, Boxing is a Crazy Sport
Last Great Hope:
Luis Nery was supposed to be boxing’s last great hope of possibly giving The Magazine’s #1 P4P Boxer Naoya Inoue A possible challenge and exciting bout. Nery showed last week against Payano that he’s an elite fighter, but not on the same level as Inoue.
When we talk Naoya Inoue we talk Sugar Ray Robinson, it’s that simple.
Who you calling?
Yordenis Ugas had a nice win against Omar Figueroa Jr. last week but make no mistake, he’s not what the fans want to see fight the top PBC welterweights.
In A Tough Situation – Environment
Teofimo Lopez ate a lot of leather in his last performance against Masayoshi Nakatani. I think before he starts calling out the big names, he should go back to the drawing board and pretend he had lost that fight. If him and his father and team can pretend that they lost maybe they can reassess the entire environment and actually get better.
Pernell Sweet Pea Whitaker
Pernell Whitaker died last week at the age of 55 and left the boxing world saddened. Many don’t know how Whitaker lived in his retired years, But we do know that when he was in the ring, he was the greatest thing to watch. Pernell Whitaker single-handedly created a whole new generation of boxing fans and boxers. Watching Pernell box is something that can’t be described.
Maurice Hooker vs Jose Ramirez:
Hooker using his reach will make the fight very similar to his last one in upstate New York and win by UD.
My Predicted Score 116-112 Mighty Mo Hooker
Good luck to both Champions and May the best Man Win!!!
Taylor continues to Try & Sell
Katie Taylor fought Delfine Persoon back On June 1st on the Andy Ruiz Jr. / Anthony Joshua undercard. Persoon has an incredible performance and should have had her coming out party by Capturing glory in what many believe is the greatest women’s boxing match ever fought. Most at ringside had Persoon winning, but Persoon got the short end of the stick. Now Taylor refuses to give Persoon a rematch and is out selling and trying to convince the public she won.
Katie Taylor can’t color coat & disguise the truth.
Queen of Boxing
Clarissa Shields is in a tough situation as she has completely dominated and cleaned out the middleweight division. When you combine her boxing skills and power together, there is really nobody else near her weight class that compares. I hope her prime years are not wasted waiting for the next big fight and fighting only every six months. I would like to see her be very active and fight every 2 to 3 months on a major undercard. Even if the fight is a miss mismatch she just needs to stay very very active to keep her name out there and also have as many fans as possible watch her live, this is really the only way to make Clarissa Shields a household name.
In a perfect world, Shields should do the Roy Jones Junior Road and move up in weight and capture multiple division titles, problem in women’s boxing is once you get past the 168 pound division there is really a handful of professionals in the sport.
