The year 2018 was another successful year for WBC boxing throughout Asia, and this week the annual WBC Asian Boxing Council awards show took place at the Asia Hotel, in Bangkok.
The main award recipients were two WBC Boxing superstars, current WBC minimum-weight world champion, Wanheng Meenayothin, and former WBC super-flyweight champion of the world, Srisaket Sor Rungvisai.
The two Thai pugilists took home the Asian Boxing Council boxer of year award, for 2018, an award which they shared for their stellar ring activities of the year gone by.
Wanheng made three successful defenses of his coveted World Boxing Council 105Lb world championship title, whilst Srisaket defended his WBC 115Lb world title twice, in 2018.
Thai based promoters, Nakornloung promotions and Diamond promotions jointly shared the WBC Asian Boxing Council promoter of the year award, while former WBC light-flyweight world champion, Suriyan Satorn, won the fight of the year award, alongside his compatriot Siridech Deebook, for their pulsating encounter which took place back in March of 2018.
There were a plethora of awards and accolades presented to boxers, matchmakers, promoters and ring officials from across Asia, culminating in a special gift of a new WBC world championship belt to former WBC Female world champion, Wang Yanan, from China.
The former WBC world champion, who won her title back in 2008, and made two successful defenses before retiring from the sport, had recently had her belt stolen from her, and with the help of WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, the team at the Asian Boxing Council presented her with a new belt, all the way from the WBC head office in Mexico.
The awards event was held in conjunction with the annual World Boxing Council MuayThai awards show. The event attracted nearly two hundred boxing promoters, fighters and fans, alike. The future looks good for WBC boxing activities throughout Asia.
