In an Attempt to make the April 20th, 2019 Madison Square Garden -ESPN PPV Card successful, Top Rank has added a pair of 21 year old Future Stars to the card.
Top Ranks welterweight problems continue:
When Top Rank announced that Terence Crawford‘s next opponent would be over the hill Amir Khan. There was a lot of backlash. Top Rank is under pressure to deliver Good opponents for their welterweight star Terence Crawford and they are also under extreme pressure to make ESPN Plus and ESPN PPV’s a success by promoting and setting up some of the biggest block buster fights out there. The only problem is all the other top Welterweight on the planet are with PBC and PBC doesn’t want to play nice and share with Top Rank which is frustrating the heck out of Top Rank.
Top Rank went and got the biggest relevant name out there in Amir Khan and are staging the fight in the most famous arena in the world the Mecca of Boxing – Madison Square Garden. Most hard core boxing fans know that Amir Khan has zero chance of competing with Crawford and this is a huge mismatch. Khan is his Prime barely squeaked, he barely got by second rate opposition like Julio Diaz, Luis Collado, Devon Alexander and Chris Algieri. And now all of a sudden after barely getting by second tier opponents they want to put Khan in the ring with one of the best pound for pound boxers we have seen in this era?
So Top Rank makes a genius move to get the fans very interested in the April 20 card at Madison Square Garden by putting to future 21-year-old superstars on the card. Featherweight Shakur Stevenson (10-0) will take on tough Christopher Diaz (24-1). That will be an exciting fight. Also headline grabbing KO Artist Lightweight – Brooklyn’s Teofimo Lopez (12-0) will be on the April 20th Card as well. Teofimo has an impressive 4 fight KO streak. Teofimo will face light punching 31 year old Edis Tatli (32-2).
While the main event will probably be a bust (unless Crawford does the Mayweather-McGregor thing- carry the fight for a few rounds), the under Card will be fun and a great evening of boxing.
