Top 10 Middleweights in the World
The depth of the Welterweight Division and the excitement of the Heavyweight Division doesn’t have much over the talent of the Middleweights.
They say on any given Night anything can happen and the top Middleweights are so evenly matched now that on any given night, anyone of them can beat another even if your name is Alvarez or GGG (whether it be someone landing there goodnight punch or depending on what the judges are looking for the evening).
Here are the rankings after Andrade’s good showing last week and Charlo barely getting the Win at the Barclays last month.
1. Gennady Golovkin
2. Canelo Alvarez
3. Danny Jacobs
4. Sergiy Derevyanchenko
5. Matt Korobov
6. Billy Joe Saunders
7. Demetrius Andrade
8. Jermall Charlo
9. Magomed Madiev
10. David Lemieux
GGG in my eyes is still the top man but at 36 years old his best days might be behind him, furthermore he needs a lot more recovery time.
Canelo Alvarez is the current Star of the Division and still very much fresh. Canelo/Jacobs in May is a 50-50 Fight.
Jacobs is a true ambassador to the sport and a great man to be around. I believe he has the most speed and power in the division. Questions are is he draining himself to make weight? Why isn’t he letting his hands go and waiting for the one big shot?
Sergiy Derevyanchenko is short, but a terrific boxer. He got clipped in the first round again Jacobs in October because he started slow, but I thought he was the busier of the two and might have outboxed Jacobs.
Matt Korobov forgot that it was supposed to be Charlo’s coming out party and I thought he surprisingly outboxed Jermall and won the fight.
Billy Joe Saunders and Demetrius Andrade are rumored to be Fight each other next. That will be a great addition to an Amazing 2019 Boxing Year.
Jermall Charlo enters the ring in Tip-Top Shape. You can’t question him work ethic. As he moves up in class he might have to take a little bit off his punches in order to land more, this is not the Heavyweight division. Throwing only big shots will make you exciting and get your some memorable victories but will not keep you undefeated.
David Lemieux might be to big to even make 160 anymore but putting him in the top 10 for his 2018 Knockout of the year over Gary O’Sullivan is deserved.
