This Saturday March 16 in Arlington, Texas at AT&T Stadium, one of the biggest boxing events in recent memory will take place. Two undefeated champions in their prime will go at it toe-to-toe.
Errol Spence Junior the IBF Welterweight Champion of the world has an outstanding record of 24-0 and is on a five-year knockout streak. Spence has dominated all of his opponents knocking the competition out left and right and making a big name for himself. Spence captured Boxing Action Magazine’s number 1 pound for pound spot when he crossed the pond and fought Kell Brook for the Welterweight Title. Brook at the time was 36-1 with his only loss coming to the Great Gennady Golovkin. Spence stopped Brook in the 11th round in a fireworks fight. In Spence’s last fight, he made easy work of opponent Carlos Ocampo.
Miguel Angel Garcia Cortez comes from a historic boxing family and has had quite a career. Mikey has held world championship titles in four weight classes and is currently Boxing Action Magazine’s Junior Welterweight Champion and #7 on the Boxing Action Magazine P4P list. Garcia has been boxing great, stunning opponents with his power and handling the top boxers best punches. Garcia’s last record stoppage was in January 2017 when he stopped Lightweight Dejan Zlaticanin in the 3rd round.
Spence verse Garcia is sure to be a blockbuster success as both these undefeated champions are in there prime and are very fan friendly because they like using there power to set the tone of the fight. When Garcia was originally calling for the fight, many thought it was not legitimate or it would be a suicide mission. Once the fight was signed many were shocked thinking that this fight is clearly a mismatch not because of the skill level but simply because of the size difference.
When talking to Robert Garcia- Mikey’s brother and trainer in late 2018, he wasn’t happy about the possibility of the fight. Once the fight was made official and announced, the whole Garcia family got on the same page and are 100% go to get the win on March 16. How can you not respect a man that makes his own decisions – how can you not respect a singer who writes his or her own music. Mikey with a win will not only become a five division champion but will also catapult to Boxing Action Magazines number 1 pound for pound spot.
Mikey Garcia against Errol Spence is the first fight to be for the Boxing Action Magazine pound for pound number one spot since Floyd Mayweather Jr. fought Manny Pacquiao four years ago. Hold onto your seat and fasten your seat belt for this Saturday night when these two warriors put on a show – they will show us why boxing is the best sport in the world. Will this be a fight for the ages? Will this fight be an all time upset? Or will we learn and see once again that there is a reason for weight divisions in boxing.
