1. Naoya Inoue

Naoya Inoue is the current day Sugar Ray Robinson. Inoue is a true #1 P4P Boxer similar to how Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Andre Ward, and Roy Jones were in their prime.

2. Errol Spence Jr.

The Jury is still out on Errol Spence Jr., Spence’s Win over a prime Kell Brook put Him on the list, but in many ways Spence is still untested.  His performance on September 28 again Shawn Porter will tell us a lot. Even with a win, it is possible to slip down a few spots on the list.

3. Manny Pacquiao

The Ageless Manny Pacquiao remains in the #3 spot after another sensational win. This time Keith Thurman was the victim. Boxing Action Magazine received many complaints for having Pacquiao rated so high. With the victory over Thurman, it seems the dust has settled. 

4. Gennady Golovkin

Gennady Golovkin time as a top dog is running out.  Currently he is still one of the best boxers in this generation. As he gets older, he continues to eat more leather. GGG has a Huge fight coming up October 5th at MSG against Sergiy Derevyanchenko. With age GGG has been a bit hittable lately, but still cares Top P4P power. 

5. Mikey Garcia

Mikey Garcia is getting to the point of, “show me something”. Garcia remains highly rated, but needs to get a bit more active. Passing on fighting Danny Garcia at 147 pounds and thinking about fighting at the junior welterweight level might be the smartest thing Mikey Garcia‘s team can do for him. Garcia will decide which promotion  he wants to possibly forge a multi fight deal with in the next few days. At this point Garcia needs to fight only the top boxers available.

6. Canelo Álvarez

Outside of getting the most emails and complaints about the low ranking of Crawford and Uysk, Canelo Álvarez is the Boxer many feel should be ranked higher. It is very crowded at the top, but the Canelo fans have a strong case for Canelo being ranked as high as #2. Currently, Canelo is at his peak and clearly the #1 boxing draw, it will be interesting to see how long his prime will last as his body style is very injury prone. While possibly fighting Sergey Kovalev later this year would be impressive, Kolvalev showed his age against a green Yarde in Russia. Fighting old champions or playing catch weights will not help Canelo move up on the P4P list.

7. Vasyl Lomachenko

The boxing world is buying whatever Vasyl Lomachenko is selling. A marvelous talent no doubt. The top P4P greats such as Pacquiao, Jones, Whitaker & Leonard all moved up in weight and fought bigger men to prove they were number one. I get the feeling that if Lomachenko moved up to 140 pounds and fought guys like Hooker and Ramirez he would get destroyed within three rounds. Top Rank is doing a great job protecting him. Lomachenko himself has indirectly  ruled out a move to 140 pounds. Lomachenko was able to  decision Campbell this past week in London. His professional Resume (opponents) doesn’t justify him being in the top 5.

8. Jose Ramirez 

 A big congratulations to Jose Ramirez for cracking the top 10 P4P list for the first time in an already terrific career. Ramirez was an underdog going into the Maurice Hooker fight. Ramirez’s conditioning, boxing skills, power and movement was spectacular that night.  That evening he was the best 140 pounder on the planet and he is currently taking the Sport by the Horns.

9. Leo Santa Cruz

Leo Santa Cruz’s career has been nothing short of spectacular. Cruz avenged his single loss in dominant fashion, taking his opponent to school. Leo Santa Cruz might never Rank as a top 50 all time boxer, but he is great. Cruz  has accomplished so much in his early career,  he has earned the right to be in-active for as long as he wants and still be in the top 10. How on earth Boxing analysts would exclude a proven long time champion like Cruz of the top 10 and put Juan Francisco Estrada there is beyond me. Estrada ranked higher then Cruz make no sense.

10. Tyson Fury 

Tyson Fury’s story and history is one of the most unique in all of sports. He might have the oddest looking top P4P body ever. I guess it’s true what they say, “ don’t judge a book by its cover.” Fury is a rare athlete who is very entertaining. Fury is slated to fight Otto Wallin next –  most Believe this is a mismatch but nonetheless all eyes will always be on Tyson Fury. Fury has established himself to the dismay of many as Boxing’s Premier Entertainer.

Other Notes:

Gervonta Davis  wants $10 million to face Farmer on DAZN. Settling on $8 Mil would be a wise move.  Davis also making his move to 135 now.

Roman Gonzalez is not on Boxing Action Magazine’s Top 10 pound for pound list for the first time in over seven years. Gonzalez still has a few good fights left in him if he can get healthy.

Sergey Kovalev: Golden Boy saw a weakness in Kovalev and before Canelo could expose it, Anthony Yarde did. The old lion is still  clinging on and gets the last spot in the top 40 September P4P.

Juan Francisco Estrada  is nicely positioned at #22. Estrada has really shined  lately but isn’t top 10 material.

Shawn Porter:  Porter is currently positioned in the number 20 spot, but if he comes in like he Fought Danny Garcia, we will see an upset and have a comfortable spot all set up for Porter in the Top 10.

Terence Crawford: Despite Crawford’s accolades, he has had weak opposition for much of his career compared to other top boxers such as Cruz, Canelo, Lomachenko, Pacquiao And Inoue.  Crawford is simply to robotic and a good champion just like Mikkel Kessler, but not top 10 P4P.

Oleksandr Usyk is a tough one for the fans to grasp.  Think about a college football team going undefeated in multiple seasons yet being in a Weak Conference.  We have seen it many times that as soon as that team faces a top national ranked team, they lose.  If the whole sport was the cruiserweight division, he would surely be number one, but the sport of boxing  encompasses too many divisions for Usyk to Currently be ranked in the top 20.
