Lewis Ritson believes he’ll mentally want it more than Robbie Davies Jnr when the two men meet in their domestic showdown on Saturday.
North East hero Ritson (19-1, 12 KOs) takes on Davies Jnr (19-1, 13 KOs) on a Matchroom Boxing show at the Newcastle Arena, live on Sky Sports.
The two men had their final press conference ahead of their clash on Thursday, and Ritson has pinpointed what he thinks the difference will be this weekend.
Ritson said: “Me and Robbie will both be fit and strong and it will come down to who mentally wants it the most, and I think that will be me.
“Robbie has a good record and can punch so it will be stupid to let the crowd get to my head and run out of there and get caught with one. The talking is done now so we’ll both go out there and let the best man win.”
Davies Jnr added: “These are the nights that you dream of, to be main event on Sky Sports in such a big arena with a packed crowd, I can’t be anything more than excited.
“It’s going to be hostile but it will be a night to remember and I can’t wait. I’ve prepared myself physically the best I could. I feel mentally and physically stronger than I ever have done going into this fight.”
Saturday’s event also features local unbeaten star Darren Reay, along with Kieron Conway, who returns to action following his extremely impressive performance against Ted Cheeseman for the British title earlier this year.
Conway said: “I’m looking forward to this one. It’s an amazing city for boxing and it will be an amazing atmosphere. I’m looking forward to putting on a show and getting back on the big table and into some big fights.
“I’ll be watching the co-main event between Cheeseman and Fitzgerald closely, and it doesn’t matter who will win as I want another shot at the British title.”
