Boxing Action Magazine was the first major publication to bring up Canelo Alvarez’s injury prone /body style & fighting style back in April of this year ( about three weeks prior to the Daniel Jacobs fight in Las Vegas). Canelo had little trouble with the weight drained Jacobs.
Jacobs as predicted simply wasn’t busy enough and wasn’t going to steal a decision in Vegas.
Canelo has not fought since and now there is fear that Canelo Alvarez’s health might not reflect his prime age.

ENJOY CANELO WHILE YOU STILL CAN
Canelo Alvarez is only 28 years old and has already had a legendary boxing career and is currently the number one draw in Boxing.
Canelo’s challenges now are not only to continue fighting the best and finish his record breaking deal/ contact just signed with DAZN, but his biggest challenge is to stay healthy.
Everybody’s body reacts different to stress, pressure and aging. Canelo is build like a tank and is as tough as they come, so what’s the problem?
At the young age of 28, it is very difficult to see Alvarez breaking down – but he is at an alarming rate. A bum knee here, an injured shoulder there and before you know it, he will be very injury prone.
The Future:
Enjoy Canelo while you can:
I believe Canelo in 2023 (at age 32) will become like this years LeBron James.
LeBron James Basketball career is one of the most extensive in history. James has won countless awards including multiple MVP’s, multiple Olympic Gold Metals and NBA Championships and maybe the most impressive is going to eight consecutive NBA Finals. This past of season James signed a contract with the Lakers at 34 years of age. I got to see him play in December and he played great and ran the whole show, it was spectacular.
When I watch him thought it wasn’t hard to see that his Elite best in the world speed was going and his peak, the prime of his career was hanging on by a thread. A month or so later, the injuries and pulled muscles started.
Looking Back at Canelo’s career, I think the same thing that happened to LeBron this year will hit Canelo at age 32, if he takes on tough competition like the quality of Gennady Golovkin and Daniel Jacobs, by September 2022 at 32 years old, he will have a hard time keeping his body healthy.
With all the comforts and body nutrition Canelo gets along with the schedule he has had the last 7 years, you wouldn’t think this is the case, for a Top world class boxer, he actually has had an average schedule when it comes to strain and wear and tear on his body. Really outside of fighting Gennady Golovkin twice, Lara and Mayweather he hasn’t really taken much punishment.
Canelo’s # of Fights by Year:
2006 – 7
2007 – 7
2008 – 8
2009 – 7
2010 – 5
2011 – 4
2012 – 2
2013 – 2
2014 – 2
2015 – 2
2016 – 2
2017 – 2
2018 – 2
2019 – probably 2, May and September
Canelo is only 28 years old and has a fresh 5 year 11 Fight contract. Question is: Will his body allow him to train and fight at a championship level for the next five years, or will we see him slowly breaking down in the next few years?
