The UFC and Bellator announced Thursday that their respective events in Brasilia, Brazil, and Uncasville, Conn. will go on as scheduled without fans inside the arenas due to the coronavirus pandemic. Top Rank also said their cards on Saturday and Tuesday at the Hulu Theatre in Madison Square Garden would take place with no fans in attendance. The California State Athletic Commission canceled the Golden Boy Promotions events on March 19 and March 28 (originally on DAZN) on Thursday.
Premier Boxing Champions is following California’s lead as they are postponing Saturday’s fight card that was set to be headlined by James Kirkland squaring off against Marcos Hernandez in the main event. No date was given as to when the card would be rescheduled.
“In the interest of public health and after reviewing the current information on COVID-19, we have decided the best course of action is to postpone Saturday’s event,” Tom Brown, President of TGB Promotions said in a statement. “We understand how disappointing this is to boxing fans and regret any inconvenience.”
The coronavirus has caused the postponement of the NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS seasons. The NCAA has gone as far as to cancel their college basketball tournament for the first time in their history.
