Welterweight Main Event on March 24th on this beautiful Sunday as the boys of summer are all out today playing baseball scrimmages and getting ready for summer.
Lamont Peterson takes on Sergey Lipinets live on FS1 presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
Lamont Peterson wearing beautiful purple trunks with silver trim along with matching purple & silver Rival gloves. Sergey Lipinets coming in the ring with handsome black and silver trunks wearing the traditional red Everlast gloves.
First few rounds have been exciting and steady for both fighters. Both guys really sitting on there punches – throwing with mean intentions. Lipinets doing some good body movement while boxing and doing a good job throwing from different angles. Lipinets also has a very nice uppercut. Even fight thru 4 rounds.
Excellent fight, as these fighters are very even in size, power and skill. Peterson a bit longer and Lipinets 5 or 6 years younger. Both fighters have excellent trainers in Barry Hunter and Joe Goossen. The 5th round was shortened as the time keeper rang the bell a minute early and after some complaining he Ref resumed the round – a bit odd, but not a big deal.
Seven rounds in the books as these warriors came ready to fight, each averaging about 100 punches a round landing 35-40% of there punches.
Round 8. Lipinets breaks though in the 8th round landing a big right hand that hurt Peterson. Lipinets had Peterson on the ropes and badly hurt. Peterson grabs Lipinets holding on and trying to survive.
Round 9. Peterson comes out of the corner steady on his feet again. Lipinets just keeps coming – hurting Peterson to the head and body. Lipinets throughout some hard punches looking for the stoppage. Peterson has a nice flurry the last 10 seconds of the round. Lipinets is dominating right now.
Round 10. Lipinets keeps pouring it on and lands a huge hooking right on top of Peterson’s head which hurts Peterson. Then Peterson catch’s a couple more shots while backing up and at the same time he hits the canvas, Barry Hunter had already throw in the towel.
Excellent fight, excellent performance by both boxers and there coaches and teams.
Lamont Peterson retires in grace after the fight. Congratulations Lamont on a terrific career. Thank you for your courage and sportsmanship. Peterson finishes his career with a 35-5-1 record.
Congratulations Sergey Lipinets!
