On this day in history Salvador Sanchez defends WBC crown
May 8, 1982
In a rock of ages contest, Salvador Sánchez defended his WBC featherweight world championship, defeating gritty contender Rocky Garcia by unanimous decision in 15 rounds.
Tragically, Salvador died in a car accident on August 12th 1982. His last fight was a TKO win over Azumah Nelson less than a month earlier. So we`ll never know the full glorious extent of his unfolding legacy, and the further rarefied heights he could have climbed to.
