Wilder vs Fury:
To kick off the last month of a terrific boxing year, Deontay Wilder will take on Tyson Fury on December 1st at the Staples Center in Los Angeles California. This will be a very exciting heavyweight fight featuring not only two undefeated Heavyweight champions, but also the best talkers in the sport. The winner will not only have bragging rights but could set up himself for a huge pay day against Anthony Joshua if promoter Eddie herd decides to share in some of the big money. Hearn currently thinks that those two boxers are not drawers and are not worth big money even though he is dying to get the winner signed and make one of the biggest boxing events in recent history.
Julio Cesar Chavez Junior:
As much as I want to root for this kid, the excuses get boring after a while. He is currently scheduled two face fellow Mexican; The Dog, Alfredo Angulo on the Wilder/Fury undercard on December 1st – Don’t hold your breath.
The Special One:
Kell Brook, will be in action in Scheffield, England; tentatively set for December 8th against an appointment to be determined soon. His current focus is to stay at 147 so he could set up his dream match with Amir khan in the early part of 2019 (probably March 2019). Book-Khan will be a big money fight in England. For those who follow boxing it is clear that Brook is going to destroy a very overrated, washed up Khan.(Khan is trying to have Brook weight-in the same day as the fight so he can make an excuse not to fight him.)
Lions Only Club:
The Lions Only Club headed by the Charlo brothers will be headlining the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on December 22nd. Both Charlo’s will be taking on weak, easy competition to close out the year. Something about watching boxing in the Barclays Center is always terrific though and well worth going. Both Charlo brothers are thought of in very high regard in boxing circles.
Big Baby:
Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (22-0-1 19 KO’s) will face Dogdan Dinu ((18-0) in Kansas for the vacant WBA Paper Title. Claressa Shields, Brandon Rios and Gabe Rosado will be in action as well.
Cinnamon:
Saul Canelo Alvarez signed a huge 11 fight, five-year multi million dollar deal with DAZN. DAZN is a GameChanger that promises to KO PPV to prehistoric times. DAZN currently has an open checkbook and is looking for the broadcast rights of all top boxers. In the game of boxing there is no such thing as a monopoly and I hope that DAZN walls are not built so high that it will be impossible to negotiate putting some of their fighters on other networks.
Manny Pacquiao:
After leaving Top Rank, Manny Pacquiao has aligned himself with Al Haymon and the PBC. Even though he is at the tail end of his career, this does open up a plethora of potential fights for the legend. Making fights with Errol Spence, Danny Garcia, Keith Thurman, Shawn Porter and Floyd Mayweather Junior is now much easier. I really would hate to see Manny Pacquiao fight top competition after 2019. I don’t want to see a bunch of poor boxers have Manny‘s name on their ledger. I wouldn’t mind to see Manny fight in 2020 and beyond but I think it would just be fun to see him fight guys ranked in the top 50 or 60 instead of guys ranked in the top 20. Don’t forget he is very undersized for a welterweight to begin with. After fighting Broner in January 2019, he might end up fighting Mickey Garcia (which will be an absolute fight of the year) if Mayweather gives Khabib the golden ticket.
Money, TBE, TMT:
Floyd Mayweather Junior still headlining boxing news. It’s no secret that he is itching to come back and earn another $200-$300 million for a fight in May 2019. It is clear that Mayweather is the biggest prize fighter and best boxing marketeer of our generation. The pay-per-view market goes crazy for Money Mayweather. Both Manny Pacquiao and UFU fighter Khabib Nurmagomedov are waiting to see which one will be chosen for the mega bout. Make no mistake whatever Mayweather wants he not only gets but he is also assured another record ground breaking payday. The promotions marketing team will have a field day with either Pacquiao or Khabib.
Crawford vs Spence:
The boxing world is talking about these two Best P4P elite welterweights. Every boxing Fan wants to see Terence Crawford and Errol Spence fight as they are both in their prime and considered the top two welterweights in the world and two of boxings very best. Crawford’s Promoter, Bob Arum from Top Rank claims that he can get that deal done in three hours if Al Haymon (Spence’s adviser) is willing to sit down and talk. I don’t see these two fighting till atleast 2020.
Usyk vs. Bellew:
Undisputed Super Cruiserweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk will take on big Tony Bellew on November 10th in Manchester England. A win for Usyk will start to put him in the conversation of not only the best cruiserweight ever but also where he ranks in the top pound for pound fighter’s off today.
Dmitriy Bivol vs Jean Pascal:
A big light heavyweight fight takes place on November 24th in Atlantic City live on HBO between the undefeated Bivol and the rugged Pascal. This will be another exciting fight in the light heavyweight division as the division is really starting to take shape and set up some super terrific fights in 2019.
Mickey Garcia vs. Errol Spence Jr.
It seems that Mikey Garcia is extremely serious about moving up two weight classes and fighting Errol Spence Junior. Last week he relinquished his IBF Lightweight Title and is preparing for the Mammoth fight. In talking to Mikey‘s brother and trainer Robert Garcia, Robert already told Mickey he doesn’t recommend the fight quite yet and gave him the example of what happened to Kell Brook when he moved up two weight divisions and fought Triple G. Regardless of all the advice. Mikey is moving forward with the fight because he believes he can win and wants the biggest challenges. Now that Mikey’s mind is completely made up, his family, trainers and team back him 100%. If this fight does happen in 2019, there will be fireworks similar to the turn of the century celebration. I would highly recommend putting a very stiff penalty on Spence for every pound he comes in over ($1-$2 million for every pound over 147 pounds) Mikey will already have a huge uphill battle, if Spence can come in a couple pounds heavier than Welterweight that would pretty much seal the victory for him. Also a rehydration claws with a second weigh-in the day of the fight of 10 pounds, similar to the IBF rules would be a good idea. If Mayweather doesn’t fight PAC in May, PAC vs. Garcia is also very likely.
Top boxers:
Top boxers Vasly Lomachenko and Canelo Alvarez will close out the year, each fighting at the Mecca of Boxing, Madison Square Garden, New York City. Great way to end Boxing 2019. WE are in the beginning of a golden age of boxing and boxing fans will be rewarded for many years to come.
