Most Anticipated / Wanted 2019 Fights:
The following is the dream list of boxing fights that we could potentially see and the boxing universe wants to see in 2019 providing the promoters can come together and work for the betterment of boxing.
1. Errol Spence Jr. vs Terence Crawford
These are clearly the two best welterweights currently in the world. Not far behind are the likes of Kell Brook, Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter, Floyd Mayweather & Manny Pacquiao. Many believe Terence Crawford is the best pound for pound boxer in the world today, I believe Errol Spence is clearly number one right now, this is the dream fight and Best fight that could be made. Bob Arum of Top Rank is reaching out for the fight (partly because all the best welterweights are with Haymon right now) but Haymon currently has no interest in making the fight and wants the In-House Welters he has to do a round-robin (keeping all the $ in-house as well). Hopefully, he surprises everyone and makes the fight for the betterment of boxing. This is a rare opportunity to make Errol Spence Jr. legendary and start talking about him like we do Sugar Ray Leonard and the GOAT Boxers. Spence has a limited time before he has to move up in weight. Spence is a great boxer and also very mature and responsible, Spence is the type of athlete that can carry a sport and lift it to the next level.
2. Mickey Garcia vs Vasyl Lomachenko
Garcia has dominated every division he has been in, and Loma is ranked as one of the best pound for pound boxer’s in the world, if not the best. All the greatest fighters in history have stepped up in weight to prove they’re the best, Loma needs to do the same. While you cannot question Lomachenko’s foot work, we need to see him face the very best with a track record ( not guys 10 pounds smaller or 40 year old boxers); if Mikey Garcia can get Lomachenko to step in the ring. Another super fight would be Garcia against undefeated champion Jr. Welterweight Jose Ramirez. Even though everyone including Mickey’s older brother and trainer Robert is steering Garcia away from fighting Spence because he’s just to small, Mickey seems to really want that fight. I hope his career doesn’t take a long pause like Kell Brook’s did when he stepped up two weight classes and fought GGG.
3. The undefeated heavyweight Trio:
Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua need to do a round robin to figure out who the best is. Fury- Wilder is currently scheduled later this year on December 1st at the Staples Center in LA. The biggest issue is that if Wilder beats Fury, Wilder and Joshua are very far apart on numbers $. Also there’s rumors of Wladimir Klitschko making a comeback.
4. Manny Pacquiao:
Manny Pacquiao fighting any good welterweight is always fun to watch. He has done things in boxing that is historic and we may never see the likes of a Manny Pacquiao ever again. In a few hundred years from now when they look back at our current era, Manny Pacquiao might be the one etched in history along with Babe Ruth & Michael Jordan. Pacquiao is rumored to fight in the first month of 2019 against Adrian Broner and then after that one more time against Floyd Mayweather. If Mayweather picks Khabib Nurmagomedov to fight instead of Pac in the spring, then Pac will probably fight Danny Garcia, Shawn Porter or Keith Thurman since they are all in the Haymon stable. If we are hoping to win the Lottery, Pacquiao Vs. Lomachenko (in 2019) at a catch weight of 138-140 pounds would be unreal.
5. Gennady Golovkin:
This warrior who many consider still undefeated is just awesome to watch in the ring. At 36 years old he is still currently the best middleweight on the planet. GGG above all wants a trilogy with Canelo, but since Canelo will probably stay clear of GGG in 2019, look for GGG to fight the New WBO Champ Demetrius Andrade or new IBF Champ (winner of Jacobs/Derevyanchenco). Charlo is fighting in December and doesn’t seen ready for the very best fights yet.
6. Light Heavyweight Eleider Alvarez:
After being out boxed and then knocking Out The Crusher, it will be fun to watch this warriors career. Sergey Kovalev has exercised his rematch clause and they will both go back at it on February 2nd. The fight will be Televised on ESPN with the possibily of it being staged in Texas.
7. Jarrett Hurd:
This oversized Light Middleweight has clearly emerged as the cream of the division. With lots of great competition out there, watching the super welterweight division top-five, fight each other will be excited. Also even though Jaime Munguia is very strong and currently the WBO Light Middleweight World Champion, I would not rush him, he has many fine points he still needs to work on and has plenty of time to learn them.
Who are the fighters you most want to see in 2019? And if you were a boxing promoter what fights would you like to set up for the best interest of boxing and the fans?
