In case you haven’t heard Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao met up this past week in Japan and came to a verbal agreement to fight in December 2018. Even though these two legendary boxers are a bit past their prime, it is still a very fascinating must see match. This is huge news for the boxing world as they had the biggest prize fight of all time even though it was lackluster and disappointing with Manny Pacquiao nursing an injured shoulder. As the fight becomes official in the later months and the promotions start, this will be very exciting throughout the boxing universe. Since Bob Arum has nothing to do with this fight and isn’t being ask to help, with all do respect Be Quiet. Mayweather is already a 2-1 favorite to beat Pacquiao.
The Take: Mayweather is an astounding 50-0 and the biggest boxing draw of all time. He was born into boxing and loves boxing. One of the most defensively skilled boxers of all time and lights out speed. His power has always been underrated. Pac-Man is a respectable 69-7-2 and his come at you approach, fight till I die and fight anyone attitude has made his a star the world over.
The Fighters:
Money Mayweather has been boxing professionally for 22 years. At 41 years old he has suprisingly taken little punishment throughtout his boxing career. That is what is the most amazing to me, to be the biggest boxing draw and the king of prize fighting and after a long career look like you never boxed before. Make no mistake, he trains and focuses at an all-world level. He was champion in five weight classes and lineal Champion in four and a #1 p4p fighter.
Pacquiao’s fights are legendary as he has retired many great boxers. He is boxings only Eight division world champion and five division lineal champion. Manny’s speed and power was so devastating in his prime, he was one of the most feared boxers in history. The Former #1 p4p boxer and Fighter of the decade is currently 39 years of age.
At Stake: Pretty Boys perfect record (he has work very hard to keep the O) and quest to move up on the Greatest Welterweights of all time list (currently #16) (Pac @ #7). He has one more goal on his active boxer list to accomplish. MP also has a final Goal, his ultimate goal is to take the O from Money. More then anything he has his pride on the line. This fight will be a major factor as historians look back to rank these fighters in the future.
The Result: The reality is, Mayweather at this point may just be the faster guy. Pac will be at a huge disadvantage because of his size. With that said, I believe Pacquiao will once again amaze the boxing universe by bring 25 year old energy to the fight. Unlike the GGG vs Canelo fight, the judges don’t have much to lose by being fair, its not like one of these guys will fight another 10 years. Judges are sometimes prone to lean towards the young star so they can continue to work his future fights. This fight will generate 3.7 million PPV buys in the U.S.
