March 2019, What I See
Canelo vs GGG lll – Canelo vs. GGG will happen most likely in 2020. The Catch? Canelo will dictate the terms and have the fight at the highest weight possible that GGG will agree to. The fight will be at least 165 Pounds, but most likely it will be at 168 or 170. (having the fight at 168 will give Canelo an excuse to talk about a title on the line – you heard it here first). Canelo is the greatest weight manipulator of all time and just like any A-Side Boxer – takes advantage of every single detail. This is not to say that Canelo isn’t great – because he is a great boxer, he is a warrior and takes on all comers (in time) and has set his brand up (with the help of Golden Boy) as the face of boxing. Remember every fight is diffent, for example fighting Daniel Jacobs at 160 is the best option for Canelo (that will drain Jacobs of his energy because he is naturally the bigger man), this will allow Canelo to be more active and the drained / sapped Jacobs will have to move and run a lot = giving Canelo the UD. The only way Jacobs wins with the judges is if he comes forward. Jacobs also has a chance to set a trap and catch Canelo with his power. A flush punch from Jacobs will make anyone go to sleep. But for Canelo/GGG the Higher the weight = Advantage Cinnamon
Wilder / Joshua both likely to fight Fury first on ESPN PPV.
Joshua / Fury & Joshua/ Wilder would be broadcasted on either Showtime PPV or ESPN PPV, those fights are to rich for DAZN.
Wilder / Joshua is atleast Three Years Away. Wilder and Joshua are both more likely to fight Fury first then each other. Fury/AJ or Fury/Wilder would be on ESPN PPV for $100 a pop. Look for one of those fights in 2020. If both Wilder & AJ stay undefeated, I see a huge Mega-Showdown between them on Showtime PPV in 2022. Eddie Hearn will have to swallow his pride (because there is to much money at stake) and take the 50/50 deal.
Errol Spence Jr. – The boxer that no one wants to fight. Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter will stay way clear of Spence. Danny Garcia might be willing to fight him because at the end of the day, he is a warrior (he fought Lucas The Machine Matthysse when Matt the top dog). Jessie Vargas vs Spence would also be awesome. Manny Pacquiao is also willing to fight Spence (PAC has always been willing to fight ANYONE, but has been demanding tons of money for the big fights because he has established himself as a big Brand), but he would want a Big Guarantee of at least $60 million and thats why he is still waiting on Mayweather to decide (with Mayweather he gets over $100 mill). Finally, don’t count on seeing Spence vs Crawford anytime soon. Both fighters are willing to fight each other, but Al Haymon will not share in the money especially since he controls most of the top welterweights (to much politics to make Spence/Crawford). The only way Spence/Crawford gets made is if Spence Demands It, but Spence likes his management team making his decisions.
DAZN – DAZN has jumped into Boxing & Spent more Money Faster then any Entity in Boxing History. Last week to DAZN’s suprise, they got there first rejection (Wilder said – No Thank you). It is important for DAZN to reassess there boxing program because there current model is frankly unsustainable. They might need to slow down a bit and catch there breath. Remember, Showtime has a history of being successful in Boxing (lots of experience and connections). And Yes – ESPN has jumped all in on the Sweet Science and is not only spending tremendous money, but is allocating tremendous resources to the future of boxing. Remember, ESPN has been in the boxing game (though quitely) for a long long time. DAZN needs to have a few smart guys in the board room to lead the charge into its boxing future.
Vasyl Lomachenko – Sorry to say but Loma is no Pacquiao, far from it. At 135 pounds, Loma has hit his limit. Loma does not have the warriors mentality of taking chances and moving up and challenging himself. Loma is a great/rare boxer, but when they measure, PAC stands Much Much Taller.
