Luis Nery vs McJoe Arroyo
LUIS NERY DESTROYS ARROYO INSIDE OF 5
By Daniel Gonzalez
Dallas, Texas – In his debut in the United States, 24 year old Tijuana native and bantamweight phenom Luis Nery (29-0, 23 KOs) did not disappoint. The 40 plus thousand in attendance, as well as those who tuned in on the FOX Sports pay-per-view broadcast were able able to get a 4 round glimpse of the talented southpaw, in his dominating performance over Puerto Rican McJoe Arroyo (18-3, 8 KOs).
Nery, who is already drawing comparisons to the great Manny Paquiao is not only a skilled boxer, he is also possesses tremendous power in both hands. This win marked his 3rd straight victory since losing his WBC Bantamweight title on the scales in February of last year in Japan. The WBC stripped him of his title when he came in 3 pounds overweight against Shinsuke Yamanaka (27-2-2, 19 KOs).
En route to forcing Referee Laurence Cole to stop the fight, Nery floored Arroyo 4 times. In addition, this technical knockout was the first time in McJoe’s 21 fight, 8 year career that he has been stopped. However, the difference in talent and skill level was clearly evident in this fight.
Seemingly, it is just a matter of time before Nery gets another title shot and recaptures a belt in the bantamweight division. However, judging from his skill set and size, there is no question in my mind that he will be a multiple division champion in the near future.
