Live from the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island, it’s Matchroom Boxing live on DAZN:
12 x 3 minutes rounds:
WBA World Super-Flyweight championship
Khalid Yafai vs Norbelto Jimenez
Norbelto Jimenez comes into the ring wearing silver trunks with pink trim and looking ready to fight. World Champion Khalid Yafai Is wearing silver trunks with thick turquoise fur trim.
Round 1.
Good feel out round for both competitors, Jimenez is a bit slower then Yafai and also
looks a bit rougher around the edges.
Round 2.
Yafai catches Jimenez with a left hook that rocks Jimenez as he tries to find his balance again. Yafai is being the aggressor now walking forward and throwing power shots, in the process not respecting Jimenez at all.
Round 3 & 4.
This is turning into a good fight as Jimenez is holding his own in a dull fight.
Round 5.
Yafai lands a low blow and Jimenez looks to milk it for a while and here we go. A boxing match breaks out as we see the best action of the fight thus far.
Round 6.
Good scrap breaking out as even Matchroom Head Eddie Hearn is standing up and rooting for the action. Yafai is getting the best out of a game Jimenez.
Round 7.
Jimenez has his best round of the fight landing clean on Yafai. I don’t know if it’s enough to win the round, but this is getting good.
Round 8.
Yafai lands another low blow and the crowd starts booing as they think Jimenez is faking. Now the crowd sees the replay and see it was a legitimate low blow.
Round 9.
Jimenez starting to box well and get into a groove. He might be to behind on the cards to be a finesse fighter.
Round 10 & 11.
Looks like to boxers sparring and training as opposed to trying to impress and capture the crowd. Lots of boring chants from the fans.
Round 12.
Yafai hits Jimenez as he’s falling to the canvas on a trip. Yafai catches Jimenez with a punch that’s sends Jimenez down and this awkward fight has finally come to an end as both fighters spend the last 20 seconds of the last round bouncing up and down and dancing.
Winner: Khalid Yafai by UD
I don’t think this is the action Matchroom Boxing was looking for when they paired these 115 pounders up.
The crowd boos so load that it’s difficult to hear the post fight interview.
