Having weathered two months of ultra tough training at the chilly Otomi Ceremonial High Altitude Center in the mountains perched over Toluca, Julio Cesar Martinez is prepared to take to the skies, cross the ocean and win the WBC flyweight Green and Gold Belt of champion Charlie Edwards, who`s equally determined it won`t be leaving the city limits of London.
Julio César Martinez stated he`s fully confident as he travels to England to bring home the belt, fulfilling the promise he made to his two children.
Aware and relishing that he`s not the favorite, and praising the skills of the champion, Julio Cesar says he`s not bothered about the height disadvantage as he`s always the shorter fighter. He says the key will be cutting the distance, landing solid body shots to slow up Charlie and then unloading his power punches, as he himself hits much harder.
Present and correct at “the WBC weekly press conference” Julio Cesar says he`s already clocked up 150 sharpening rounds of sparring, many of them with Edwin Palomares, Carlos Cuadras and Yahir Deval, who were essential for this preparation. He`s tested the whiskers of the bearded Cuadras, and stresses that he`s even stronger than when he stopped Andrew Selby, to earn this opportunity.
“I am physically and mentally ready and keen to face Charlie. I know he`s an excellent boxer because he`s currently the champion, but inside the ring we are two men wanting to prove who`s the best and that, I assure will be me!
“I`m hungry, I`m ready, prepared and I`m determined. I will owe this triumph to all those who have supported and trusted me. On the night I`ll make history. I can assure you all of that!”
