JULIO CESAR CHAVEZ JR. TO MAKE RING RETURN AUGUST 10
By Jimmy Ayash
Zanfer Promotions announced that son of Mexican Legend Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. will make his long awaited ring return on August 10th in Mexico. Julio Cesar Chavez Junior is announced to be fighting Evert Bravo after being inactive for over two years.
Chaves Junior is known in boxing circles along with Amir Khan to be the top talkers. Both seem to be desperately in need of somehow staying relevant in the Press.
Chavez is only 33 years old and has amassed an impressive record of 50-3-1. 32 of his victories come by knockout.
Chavez Jr. really made his own name when he fought top P4P middleweight champion Sergio Martinez in September of 2012. Chavez had a record of 46-0 going into the fight as many where surprised at Chavez for risking his (inflated) unblemished record.
Chavez was dominated by Marvel the first 11 rounds of the fight, but Chavez ate all the leather Marvel could dish out and went after him in the last round almost shocking the boxing world and knocking Marvel Martinez out. Chavez got more fans and respect in his first loss that night, then he did in his first 46 wins.
Unfortunately, for Chavez and his boxing fans, not much has got right for Chavez in boxing over the last 7 years. Everything from being out of shape, injures, inter- family issues and fight cancellations, frankly made it difficult for any promotion to trust Chavez.
It’s very difficult to market a fight and stage a big show when you don’t know if your star attraction will even show up.
On behalf of Boxing Action Magazine, I wish Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. good luck in his return and in his hopefully new launched career.
