This past Saturday Julio César Chávez Jr made Short Work of Colombian Boxer Evert Bravo.
Chavez stopped Bravo in round one in front of over 6,000 boxing fans at Antonio R. Márquez Stadium in San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco Mexico.
Chavez Junior now 33 years old is looking to reinvent his career by staying busy and fighting some big names. Chavez wishes to fight again next month against The Dog, Alfredo Angulo López. Angulo once a top boxer, became very popular Mexican Boxer with his Mexican style aggressive fighting. Angulo’s best days are way behind him, but nonetheless stepping into the ring with Julio Cesar Chavez Junior would make a massive event in Mexico.
Angulo fought his prime years in the 154 pound division and in his prime would have given fits to any top boxer & world champion.
Chavez wants to fight Angulo in September and then fight GGG or get a rematch with Canelo Alvarez at the 175 weight class. The combination of his family name and record gave Chavez a lot of pull in boxing a few years ago. His name recognition was so strong he basically could have named anyone he wanted to fight similar to The top stars of today like Canelo, Anthony Joshua and Manny Pacquiao. Don’t get it twisted Chavez Jr. never had the resume and career of any of the above mentioned but he did have the name and a strong pull.
Chavez currently doesn’t have the same pull and will really have to prove himself to get a fight with a top boxer like Canelo or GGG. He basically would have to win one of the big 4/5 titles in the Light Heavyweight division to get a big name.
The biggest problem for Chavez is all the Light Heavyweight champions are true 175 pound guys and probably to big and to strong for him.
Unless Julio Cesar Chavez Junior really steps up his game, the best road for him would be to keep fighting low quality opponents in Mexico. That will enable him to excite his Fanbase and also make a very nice living doing what he loves and continuing the family business tradition.
