As reported by Jimmy Ayash of Boxing Action Magazine on the Magazine’s Website, Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn is in deep Negotiations with Luis King Kong Ortiz’s group to get a deal done for Anthony Joshua vs Luis Ortiz on June 1st at Madison Square Garden.
Trying to get a top-notch heavyweight boxer on short notice to take a fight is a very tough negotiation. Luis Ortiz’s Promoter is of course trying to get the most money for his fighter. He is currently using the leverage provided to him from the lack of heavyweights available to stage a big blockbuster fight at MSG.
Matchroom Boxing’s Job is to try to get Ortiz to fight for the lowest possible amount so they can keep the difference and become richer.
Matchroom is under pressure as they have sold many premium packages for this fight to there loyal boxing fan base and they need to start providing there flagship franchise player Anthony Joshua with top level opponents to make him happy and respectable.
Luis Ortiz’s management group had the following to say on the possible fight earlier today:
“It’s a no go for June 1. Sorry, guys. We were told to stay quiet as long as possible, and play possum until the fight had been made, because every time someone called Luis out, it would be a gimmick to promote themselves, but it didn’t work. [I] just received news from [my] promoter that it is a NO GO, and it was all a gimmick. No contract was ever sent. So, sorry, guys…Luis really wanted this title shot.”
Someone forgot to tell the Ortiz Group that they aren’t the ones that can end the negotiations. The party with the money is the one that dictates when negotiations start and when they finish.
So they can play the, “I’m walking Away Card” if they want, but that doesn’t mean anything.
The Anthony Joshua versus Luis Ortiz negotiations to fight on June 1 are not over until Eddie Hearn and Matchroom Boxing say they are over.
