Japan’s Ryosuke Iwasa Regains the IBF Super Bantamweight Title with 11th Round KO Win Over Filipino Marlon Tapales
In an exciting clash between two southpaws for the IBF Interim Super Bantamweight championship, Ryosuke Iwasa (26-3, 17 KOs) landed a straight left hand right on the chin of Filipino Marlon Tapales (33-3, 16 KOs) that he could not recover from late in the 11th round. Referee Shada Murdaugh halted the bout after Tapales could not regain his balance. The crowd at the Barclays Center seemed disappointed with the stoppage, but Tapales was way behind on the Judges scorecards. This is now Iwasa’s second time winning the IBF Super Bantamweight title. He first captured it with a win over Yukinori Oguni in September 2017, but lost it to T.J. Dohoney at Madison Square Garden in August of 2018.
