Danny Miracle Man Jacobs narrowly defeated Sergiy Derevyanchenko in a terrific contest. Both champions went at it with everything they had. After Jacobs knocked Sergiy down with a blow to the top of the head, The Technician rebounded nicely and won the next couple of Rounds. In round 4, Jacobs landed some very good shots to win the round. Starting in round five I thought Derevyanchenko started controlling the fight. Derevyanchenko was not only the aggressor but the much busier fighter. Jacobs through out the fight showed that he was a lot quicker and had more power on his shots, but he just didn’t let his hands go enough. It seemed that he was weight drained and must have had a hard time with the IBF hydration clause. For the most part he was looking to counter but he did have some very good moments in round 11 where he clearly landed some very good shot. I thought that Jacobs beat GGG but lost to Sergiy 114-113, but it was a very good close fight. I know Sergiy Derevyanchenko is very disappointed because he truly thought he had won the fight.
Congratulations Danny Jacobs! New IBF Middleweight Champion of the World.
Alberto Machado vs Yuandale Evans:
For the Jr. Lightweight Title (130)
Machado destroyed Evans with a vicious knockout in the first round. Evans was knocked down three times. After getting up from the first knock down, Machado landed a huge blow which left Evans knocked Out on his feet, but the incompetent referee-Ricky Gonzalez let the fights continue and Evans hit the mat a second time. Then Gonzalez had a second Chance to rewrite his wrong by stopping the fight, but he let Evans up and gave him plenty of time to recover to only get him knocked out cold a few seconds later. That is the worst Refereeing I have seen in boxing. He almost got Evans killed and definitely shortened his career big time. It is very important to look after the fighters health and well-being and Referee Ricky Gonzalez failed tonight.
Big win for Alberto Machado.
Heather Hardy vs Shelly Vincent:
For the Featherweight Title (126)
These to Ladies put on another great fight. Good early action by both Women. In round 4, Vincent landed some huge shots ( best shots of the fight). In Round 5, Vincent landed a monster left at the 50 second mark. Vincent using up lots of energy trying to get inside so she can reach the taller Hardy. Rounds 6 & 7 hard to score, good action by both fighters. By round 8, it appeared Vincent was running out of gas as Hardy moved and counter-punched. Heather Hardy won a great fight, but Vincent did a lot of damage and left it all in the ring.
Congratulations Champion Heather Hardy.
Reshat Mati vs. Juan Carlos Sepulveda:
The Albanian Bear Mati got his second win in a good 4 round scrap. Mati is very young and just starting out, he is building a big following in New York and Brooklyn. He will have to learn to watch the left hook, he ate some big shots during the fight.
Russia’s Radzhab Butaev had his coming out party by beating Panama’s Azael Cosio in Three Rounds. Cosio didn’t come out for the 4th. Butaev looked very very strong and if he can continue to make the welterweight weight at 147, he will be a future star.
Uzbekistan’s Heavyweight Bakhodir Jalolov made short work of Tyrell Wright. Wright took a beating and retired after the 4th Round. Jalolov will be very exciting to watch in the Heavyweight Division.
