The Great Manny Pacquiao. I am one of those that believe we will not see another fighter like this in our generation. His aggressive boxing style combined with his undersized body; it is truly remarkable what he has done in professional boxing.
Manny Pacquiao is boxings only ever Eight Division World Champion. Known to never back down from a fight, he always took the best boxers in the world on. His never think twice mentality and always wanting to fight the best may put him down in history in the same class as Sugar Ray Robinson and Joe Louis.
After leaving Long time promoter Bob Arum and being a free agent for his last fight in Malaysia, Manny Pacquiao has currently aligned himself with advisor Al Haymon. He is currently scheduled to face Adrian Broner in January, with the possibility of getting another show down with Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May; which is Manny Pacquiao’s ultimate goal. Floyd Mayweather was on top of the welterweight division for a very long time and Manny Pacquiao would love nothing more than to give Money Mayweather his first loss (he would rather give Mayweather his first loss then get his revenge against Juan Manuel Marquez). Also just as importantly for prizefighters, Pacquiao fighting Mayweather is the biggest money fight that he could be a part of.
Going into the fight in January 2019, even at 40 years old, he will be the favorite to win. Manny Pacquiao almost has as many nicknames as the Great Welterweight Boxer Jimmy McLarnin who fought primarily in the 1930’s. Some of Manny‘s nicknames are:
PAC-Man
The Nation’s Fist
The Filipino Slugger
The Destroyer
The Mexicutioner
Just like politics where no one could agree on anything, there is a lot of opinions on where Manny currently stands in the boxing ranks. TSS (The Sweet Science) currently has him number 5 pound 4 pound boxer in the world, some believe he’s out of the top 10 but still in the top 20. Finally, some believe he shouldn’t be in the top pound 4 pound rankings anymore as they like the current flavor of the month to be ranked number one based on one fight or how much money they make or how popular they are.
The question is; is time running out for Manny Pacquiao as an all world elite fighter? I believe at age 40 he will dominate Adrian Broner in January and show his exceptional skills (if Adrian Broner takes the fight seriously and trains his best, he does have the chance of surviving all 12 rounds, but he will take a beating and not be the same ever again, so hopefully Broner saves his money or he will have to get a job at a local gas station).
If PAC fights a second time in 2019 and is healthy, I believe at age 40 he can still beat anyone and I mean anyone; and that includes Crawford and Spence. Once he turns 41 years old in December 2019, there’s no way he will not slow down, and with his aggressive come at you style that would be the time to really stop fighting the elite fighters and fight guys like Amir Khan who still can generate a good payday, but never really be in danger.
Is Manny Pacquiao too old and washed up?
If he stays healthy, in 2019 he will prove he is still the best.
