Mexico’s Jaime Munguia has been nothing short of busy. In 2013, 2014 & 2015 he fought 11 times. In 2016, Munguia couldn’t get enough of the leather and laced up the boots 7 times.
In 2017, Munguia again fought 7 times improving his record to 26-0 and also making his United States debut on December 9, in Las Vegas in his final fight of 2017.
In 2018, Munguia would fight two more times in Mexico before recording his signature win against the much smaller WBO Jr. Middleweight Champion Sadam Ali at the Turning Stone Casino in New York.
Jaime Munguia destroyed Saddam Ali who had upset Miguel Cotto in his retirement fight the previous year. Saddam Ali has no business fighting at the 154 pound ranks.
HBO had broadcast the fight live and Munguia became an overnight sensation in the boxing community and a 154 pound monster/ champion.
Since the Ali fight, Munguia has looked anything but a monster winning 4 times while recording 1 KO.
As Munguia started defending his title and fighting B level guys, his inexperience and inability to dodge punches has slowed down the Golden Boy Road Map to set-up Mega Fights with Top Stars like Canelo Alvarez and Gennadiy Golovkin.
As the Mexican gears up to fight Patrick Allotey On September 14, fans are crying for Munguia to give Dennis Hogan a rematch. Munguia barely was able to get past Hogan in April in a fight that was staged in Mexico.
Munguia is outgrowing the 154 pound division and Golden Boy wanted to set up a big name fight with Munguia. GB thought out future Hall of famer Jessie Vargas.
Vargas a tough out for any Boxer on the planet is more of a 140-147 pound boxer. Vargas was willing to fight at 154, but Golden Boy played the weight manipulation game and forced Vargas to move on.
Once Golden Boy realize Vargas wasn’t going to be pushed around, they moved on and signed Patrick Allotey for the September 14th Showdown In Mexico.
It will be interesting to see who Munguia fights when he moves up to the FULL 160 pound division.
