Ruben Villa (15-0, 5 KOs) vs Luis Alberto Lopez (17-1, 8 KOs) (Featherweight)
López comes into the ring wearing white & gold trunks and his opponent Ruben Villa wearing white trunks with black trim.
Round 1.
López being very aggressive coming in a very awkward style. Lopez’s punches don’t seem to have a lot of mustard on them and another issue is he leaves himself very wide open. With that said, I think López won the round as he simply landed more punches and did more damage.
Round 2.
Lopez’s Style is very awkward but it’s definitely working for him so far as he is still landing big on Villa. Villa closes out the round well, but I think López’s early work won the round . Lopez reminds me a little bit of Ricardo Mayorga and a bit of Manny Pacquiao. Lopez’s biggest problem is that he has no defense and is very susceptible to eating a big KO punch.
Round 3.
López walking Villa down and still landing well. Another round for López.
Round 4.
Another action packed round and it seems the entire evening has been exciting. Villa evened up the playing field in that round and stood his ground and let his hands go a bit.
Round 5.
Villa wins the second round in a row. López seems to be running out of gas. The second half of the fight will be interesting. López gets warned not to throw punches after the bell.
Round 6.
Lopez bounces back and has a very strong first two minutes to round 6. I have López up 4 rounds to two. By the way the broadcasters are talking, Lopez has no shot to get the decision. He might be in a no win situation.
Round 7.
López catching his second wind and really letting his hands go and dominating the round. I don’t understand how the broadcasters are saying that Lopez might not necessarily be winning the round. Villa did absolutely nothing in that round. They are praising Villa for being calm and patient, but he’s doing nothing to win rounds.
Round 8.
López has to be careful to listen to the referee and stop when instructed or he could lose a point. Villa lands a nice left to close out the round. Very close round but I think López puts another round in the bank. 6-2 López
Round 9.
After López wins the 1st minute of the round, Villa finally makes a stand and edges out the round. 6-3 López
Round 10.
López lands a nice right uppercut. Villa lands a nice right. López landing a lot of tricky punches that the broadcasters might not be seeing. López wins round 10 and I think won 7 rounds in the fight.
Very good action packed fight!
We go to the score cards:
Winner by UD – Ruben Villa
Other Action from Corona, California:
Michael Dutchover vs Rosekie Cristobal (super lightweight)
Dutchover wearing camouflage trunks with gold trim and Cristobal wearing pink & white trunks with black trim.
Round 1.
Dutchover lands a big left to the Body to Knockout Cristobal in a quick fight.
Winner Michael Dutchover
Saul Sanchez vs Brandon Benitez (Bantamweight)
Benitez coming into the ring wearing rich red and white trunks. Sanchez coming into the ring wearing a beautiful Carolina blue robe with matching light blue trunks with silver trim.
Two young 21 year old prospects are ready to battle live on ShoBox.
Round 1.
What a round. Benitez coming out a bit nervous and aggressive knowing he’s the underdog. Both fighters doing good work especially to the body. Sanchez a bit more accurate with his shots, but both are throwing with mean intentions. The second half of the round a bit quiet, 10 rounds might be a bit much for these two prospects. Both guys threw about 50 punches each. Benitez lands an excellent left hook to close out the 1st round.
Round 2.
Excellent round of action and both fighters stayed busy the entire round. Benitez is Impressive, he can throw punches with both hands from many different angles. Benitez lands a big right at the end of the round.
Round 3.
What a fun fight to see as both fighters are doing everything they can to win the rounds and fight. Excellent matchmaking by ShoBox!!
Another excellent round for both fighters as both guys are taking heavy punishment, both boxers faces are showing the damage. Sanchez had a good round, I’d like to see Benitez use his height and length, maybe throwing more jabs. It seems like Benitez only knows how to fight one way, and that’s a war type Style. When Benitez maturities, he will learned to use different strategies for different fighters.
Round 4.
The action continues as Sanchez lands a big left hand in the middle of the round and clearly wins the round.
Round 5.
Better round for Benitez as he is moving and boxing now – listening to his corner. Sanchez doing a good job cutting the ring off.
Round 6.
Excellent round for Benitez as he’s boxing, landing and moving. Neither one of these two young prospects might know what a jab is; I don’t think they threw one that round. Benitez wins the round by boxing beautifully and keeps himself in the fight.
Round 7.
Sanchez doing some vicious bodywork. What a round and what a fight. Lots of action as Benitez took a lot of punishment in the round. Sanchez is simply more active. Benitez has a nice 25 second clip towards the end of the round.
Round 8.
Sanchez lands a big right hand and the referee stopped the fight right away -do more to the accumulation of punches during the fight.
Winner Saul Sanchez
What a fight, both fighters should hold their head high!
