Marcos Maidana returned to his native home of Argentina and spoke to the local press that he is retired from boxing as of now because something in the United States wasn’t right.
Maidana was training hard and shedding weight like someone sheds skin after a sunburn in South Miami Beach. He had planned a multi fight schedule for this year with tune-up fights starting in the super welterweight division and working his way down to the big money fights at Welterweight.
I find it hard to believe that Maidana is walking away, he made a decision to return and has worked very hard.
I believe one of two things is happening:
1. He needs a change of scenery or needs a different team in the USA to be more comfortable.
2. He is simply looking for more money or with the need of big name star power in the Welterweight division, he needs to figure out how to jump ship to another promoter.
I See Maidana making his return to the ring, but it will be a bit long then he and we thought.
Good Luck Marcos Maidana!
Original Story on Maidana:
MARCOS MAIDANA LOOKING FOR STORYBOOK ENDING
Maidana surprised many when he came out of retirement after being inactive for five years. If anyone can make a successful come back it’s Marcos Maidana as his training and conditioning when he fought Floyd Mayweather was stuff of legend.
Chino has lost about 30 pounds in only one month. He is currently weighing around 190 and still has about 50 more pounds to go. Losing the last 20 will be a strain as Maidana wants to hop back in the ring to start his tune-up fights this summer and cash out in 2020 with a huge showdown against Terence Crawford.
Top Rank is willing to pull out all the strings if Maidana can prove to be top welterweight again.
Boxing is so unpredictable, it’s beautiful; from Bernard Hopkins boxing into his 50’s to maybe Marcos Maidana being the number one Welterweight on the planet in 2020. It’s a tall order, but not inconceivable by any means.
Good Luck Chino, we will be watching with excitement.
