Deontay Wilder has expressed a fear that Tyson Fury will use his WWE venture as an excuse to swerve their second fight.
A deal is said to already be signed for their rematch next February, assuming the WBC heavyweight champion successfully defends his title against Luis Ortiz on November 23.
However, Fury has now thrown a WWE clash against Braun Strowman into the mix and will be out in Saudi Arabia for the event on October 31.
“I’m not surprised he got into WWE,” Wilder told SunSport in reaction to the news.
“We’d been saying this a long time ago that he’s gonna try it, he’s been making excuses about the rematch.
“Now he’s got into the WWE, he’s gonna get ‘injured’ make up excuses and, lo and behold, we already hearing about he sprained his ankle.
“Yeah, he’s messing around with those big guys, but I do not want to hear no excuses, none, no excuses.”
In his latest WWE scene, Fury went down injured after being blindsided by Strowman.
Wilder sees this as just the latest way the Brit will attempt to avoid him after initially opting out of their rematch earlier this year to sign with Top Rank/ESPN.
The American continued: “At first he blamed it on the ESPN deal, but my theory is, you say you beat me easily the first time, 10-2, that’s pretty goddamn easy, so if you get a rematch it’s going to be easier.
“So if they ‘give you a $100m’, imagine you beat the king and become a champion, boy you going to be worth $200m.
“And then you sign that deal with them, but if you want to cop out the rematch of course you go with the deal, avoid the rematch.”
