CHRIS ALGIERI (23-3 8KO’s) and TOMMY COYLE (25-4 12KO’s) met today at the HULU THEATRE AT MSG, in NYC, at the final presser ahead of Algieri’s first WBO International Super Lightweight Title defense at MADISON SQUARE GARDEN on the undercard of anticpated United State debut of world champion Anthony Joshua vs. Andy Ruiz, to be aired LIVE on DAZN.
CHRIS ALGIERI:
“First I want to thank Eddie Hearn and Matchroom boxing for putting on this amazing event as well as my promoter Joe DeGuardia, Star Boxing…”
“This is a huge opportunity. This is exactly why I came back to the sport, I want to be a world champion. This fight with Tommy Coyle puts me back in that position.”
“I am feeling great; this training camp has been fantastic. I have an opponent in Tommy Coyle that gets me excited to go out there.”
“On Saturday night I am looking forward to putting on a great show, coming out with a victory, and moving forward.”
STAR BOXING CEO JOE DEGUARDIA:
“This fight is something really special between Tommy and Chris.”
“Be sure to tune in early on DAZN, because this is going to be on early, and will be a great fight leading into the championship of the world.”
“Chris is hungry to get his title back, he has never lost at 140 lbs., and Tommy is standing in his way. Eddie [Hearn] has it right, the winner of this fight probably fights for a championship of the world next.”
TOMMY COYLE:
“I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be fighting at the mecca of boxing, which is Madison Square Garden.”
“It’s a huge opportunity for me, to go on and do something that I probably never thought would happen in my career.”
“Saturday night I am going to go in there and shine like a diamond … I have really improved as a fighter and I am really coming into my own now.”
MATCHROOM PROMOTER EDDIE HEARN:
“Tommy gets the chance to be in this fight, and completely flip his career on its head.”
“I think the winner of this fight has to go on and have the chance to challenge for a world title at 140 lbs.”
“This is a fight that [Joe DeGuardia] and I have spoken about for a while and can take Chris back to challenging for a world title.”
