As we learn more about Canelo’s DAZN Deal, it is obvious that there was a lot of trust given from both parties.
DAZN thought that all of Canelo’s Fights would be PPV worthy and Golden Boy and Canelo thought business as usual (do anything we want, when we want).
DAZN is learning the hard way being a rookie in the business game that it’s future mega boxing contracts will be more detailed and will have more stipulations tying the boxer to the network and having a big role in the matchmaking process of the contracts.
DAZN and Canelo are quickly saving face by stating that both parties are on the same page and understand the goals of the five-year contract.
If you put two and two together and look at the current statements made by Golden Boy Promotions Head, Oscar De La Hoya about Canelo possible future opponents along with statements made about the details of the contract from DAZN and Canelo, we can see a meeting of the minds taking shape.
Golden Boy and Canelo are looking to preserve the boxer and keep him healthy and DAZN wants the biggest fights to get more subscribers.
The solution is Easy/Hard, Easy/Hard & Easy/Hard again. Knowing the importance of the Mexican Holidays in May and September, in the formula there is also the room/ability & flexibility to make quick turn around Fights if Canelo is healthy and comes out with little damage.
That will make everyone happy and hopefully come as close as possible to accomplishing both parties goals.
This is also great for Golden Boy as they can continue to throw big names out from the sky to keep everyone guessing, confused and excited. As Canelo fights in different weight classes, Canelo will become even a bigger focal point in the media, making him a bigger star and putting him 90% in the drivers seat even with a big network contract.
The Result & Future:
December 2018-Easy vs Rocky Fielding
May 2019- Hard vs Daniel Jacobs
September 2019- Easy – If Healthy will fight at around 168 pounds
Dec 2019/Jan 2020- Easy If Healthy will fight up to 175 pounds to make big headlines.
May 2020- Hard vs GGG or 168 Champ. This will be his next big challenge after Daniel Jacobs.
September 2020– Easy Fight

Canelo has been a great asset to the sport of boxing. He is a blockbuster attraction and always fun to watch. His new Arsenal of power body punching is making him very scary to fight.
