Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs
PRIME CANELO PROVES TO BE TO MUCH FOR JACOBS
By Jimmy Ayash,
Canelo/ Jacobs Thoughts:
As I talked about in the keys to victory, Jacobs had to let his hands go. The problem quite honestly, is Jacobs works so hard to drain down to 160 pounds, he doesn’t have the energy to do what he wants to do.
Jacobs spent the first half of the fights running mostly and fighting in spots. Canelo had Elite prime speed. Canelo was very impressive on how he was able to get inside at will and work whenever he wanted to.
Round 7. was very telling as Jacobs kept his distance almost in fear of Canelo’s punches.
Round 8. Was the best round of the fight as I thought Jacobs was turning the fight around.
Jacobs won rounds 9 and 10 clearly.
Canelo came out surprisingly fresh, super fast and boxed with tremendous experience. Canelo slowed a bit in the later rounds, but amazingly walked thru Jacobs biggest punches. It almost seemed that Canelo couldn’t be hurt in the fight.
Also the referee and judges did a terrific job tonight. Very good event.
Canelo made a believer of the non-believers tonight.
He’s a recap of how I called the fight:
Canelo Alvarez vs Daniel Jacobs
Alvarez comes in at 170 pounds this morning and Jacobs ignores the 10 pound hydration clause and comes in at almost 174 pounds. At $250,000 penalty per pound, that’s a cool $1 million penalty fee. Rumor has it that Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn is taking care of the fee as Hearn not only believes in Jacobs, but has a huge investment in Jacobs.
Main Event Time: Here We Go!!!
Jacobs comes out in a beautiful Green/black and multi-colored rope looking very focused, determined and ready for battle.
Alvarez comes out to tradition Mexican music wearing a beautiful white with gold embroidered poncho.
Canelo is wearing beautiful white trunks with gold trim and green leather gloves. Jacobs wearing beautiful black trunks with red and green trim, along with black gloves.
Round 1.
Canelo coming out a bit aggressive throwing a left hook that missed. Canelo lands a good right to the body. Good feel
Out round for Jacobs as he lets his hands go a bit in the last minute of the round.
Round 2.
Wow- excellent round for both fighters. Both fighters are executing their game plan, both guys are landing and boxing well. And both fighters are throwing heavy shots with mean intentions. This is very high level quality boxing.
Round 3.
Another excellent round for both fighters. Jacobs smothering his punches a bit in the first half of the round. In the second half of the round I thought Jacobs did some excellent work and also is doing a terrific job controlling the distance. Jacobs landed better in that round.
Round 4.
Another exciting round as Canelo seems to be very comfortable against the taller Jacobs. Canelo really setting the tone, Canelo’s speed is at another level right now. It will be interesting to see how much Canelo slows down as the fight goes on.
Round 5.
Canelo being aggressive and Jacobs is still trying to figure out how to catch Canelo. Both guys open up a bit towards the end of the round.
Round 6.
A Mirror image of the previous rounds. Canelo coming forward and both guys boxing well. Canelo simply the Busier fighter. As I mentioned in the keys to the fight, “Jacobs has to let his hands go”.
Round 7.
Canelo does some good work early. Jacobs seems a bit scared of Canelo’s power and is really keeping a lot of distance. Jacobs Is having a hard time landing his shots because of the distance he’s keeping.
Round 8.
Wow – Best round of the fight so far as Jacobs finally opens up and starts taking chances. Jacobs eating a lot of leather but is willing to take two or three shots to possibly land his own haymaker.
Round 9.
Jacobs Went back to his old ways of moving to much and not being active the first two minutes. In the final minute, Jacobs lands the best Punches of the fight and steals the round from Canelo.
Round 10.
Jacobs taking it to Canelo and wins the round by landing some big shots. It might be a little to late as Canelo May have built to big of a lead for Jacobs to catch up.
Round 11.
Jacobs missing on his opportunity to really control the fight by not being busy enough. Very close round as Jacobs might have edged it out.
Round 12.
Excellent round to show how closely matched these two fighters are.
And we go to the judges:
Winner By UD: Canelo Alvarez
