Mexican Style:
Emanuel Navarrete dismantled & disfigured the tough undefeated Francisco De Vaca this past Saturday in a 122 pound match.
Navarrete is on the fast track to stardom and is currently one of the best boxers in the industry. Top Rank has him making a quick turnaround – fighting again on Mexico’s Independence Day Holiday on Tyson Fury’s undercard in Las Vegas on September 14th.
I like the move, I just don’t think fighting one month later is a great option for many reason. Now that’s he’s a world champion, he is fighting top level guys. If Navarrete is going to continue to fight top competition he will need some downtime – his body will need to rest before training again, I hope Top Rank does not ruin this young man’s career.
A loss by Navarrete on a one month turnaround is all on the shoulders of the management team & promoter. I don’t understand why Arum would take the chance of ruining something rare and special like a talent of Navarrete’s stature.
BUSY WEEK FOR BRONER:
BRONER ACTING VERY CONFUSED THIS WEEK – Broners calls our a few World Champions At 140 pounds, retires twice and today wants to fight Lomachenko, Canelo & GGG.
What’s next – Broner calling out Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua? PBC is getting very tired of his antics and what he feels he is worth.
Joshua vs Ruiz 2:
Eddie Hearn held a press conference and confirmed that the fight is a done deal for Saudi Arabia on December 7. This fight is far from a done deal, Hearn will have to fold, break his own contract and give Ruiz more then the Originally Agreed Amount to make Ruiz leave the Western hemisphere. Hearn & Ruiz quietly negotiating.
If a fight somewhere on the planet does not occur on December 7th, Anthony Joshua will be very upset with his promoter.
Boxing’s Best Fighter:
Naoya Inoue is head and shoulders the best pound for pound boxer on the planet. Any pound for pound list that does not have him number one is not to be taken seriously. It’s the monster first and then everybody else falls into a level B category.
INOUE-DONAIRE Will not be a contest it will simply be another Monster blowout.
Canelo Still Single:
Canelo simply did not want to fight Triple G this year while Triple G still has a bit of his prime left.
Now Canelo has a deal in place to fight Sergey Kovalev in November if Kovalev Beats Anthony Yarde on August 24 in Russia and comes out of the Fight relatively unharmed.
Demetrius Andrade is Canelo’s back up plan, but Billy Joe Saunders Or Jermall Charlo would be more intriguing if he truly claims he wants to make the biggest fights.
GGG vs Sergiy Derevyanchenko:
Looks like these two rugged tough boys are all set to duke it out on October 5 in Madison Square Garden for the International Boxing Federation World Title. A strong undercard could make this a hot ticket. The GGG / Matchroom partnership will hopefully make better fights on GGG’s future undercards.
Hopefully Triple G has some type of opt-out / penalty fee clause allowing him to cancel the contract if Canelo changes his mind about fighting him later this year.
Spence vs Porter:
Spence has the power, reach and youth advantage. I believe this is a 50-50 fight for one reason. If the Porter who fought Danny Garcia shows up – he can beat anybody at 147. Spence has more thread left on the tires though.
Amanda Serrano vs Heather Heat Hardy:
Good for these ladies for making a name for themselves and making people around the world excited to see them fight.
Heather Hardy’s corner Has to be very mindful, Serrano is like a young Pacquiao who is capable of inflicting a lot of damage. This is the type of fight that could end Hardy’s career if she’s to tough for her own good. I see Serrano winning by a landslide.
Serrano & Shields are the best Female Boxers on the planet Bar None.
Gervonta Davis vs Tevin Farmer:
Gervonta Tank Davis had a wonderful/ needed homecoming fight and has positioned himself as the top dog at 130. Farmer just got offered $2 million for a Unification fight that he’s balking at. Farmer is betting on himself as a top attraction which might be to soon to do.
Keith Thurman Lost:
Thurman showed tremendous sportsmanship after the Manny Pacquiao fight. He needs to be quiet right now and step up and fight Danny Garcia and show that he deserves to be talked about as one of the very best boxers. Or at least go public and call out the very hyped Terence Crawford.
Thurman Calling out Manny Pacquiao Again is falling on deaf ears, That was a once-in-a-lifetime chance and that ship has already sailed.
Looking Back at Hooker / Ramirez:
Maurice Hooker and Jose Ramirez had a tremendous exciting fight. Congratulations to Ramirez for unifying two titles. Taking nothing away from the amazing boxing performance Ramirez put On. In fact, Ramirez’s Great performance landed the unified Champ on Boxing Action Magazine’s P4P list. Ramirez is nicely positioned at #11.
Mighty Mo taught all boxers a big lesson, when you’re more concerned with the crowd and looking good then your opponent, you going to get knocked out.
Son of a Mexican Legend:
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. had a nice little win in Mexico, Junior has a long road to walk/ run to get a big name fight.
The Cuban Cyclone:
Yuriorkis Gamboa had a terrific win against Roman Martinez and in the process lined himself up for a big fight.
Winning Isn’t Everything:
Luis Nery, Yordenis Ugas, Teofimo López & Chad Dawson all recently recorded wins. All Four looked Very Unimpressive and need a few more fights to be worthy of a world title Headliner.
The American Dream:
Erislandy Lara is still a great fighter and a top dog in the 154 pound division. Age has caught up with the great Cuban and can no longer hold off & dominate the young lions in the division.
Oleksandr The Nail Gvozdyk:
Gvozdyk & trainer Teddy Atlas May have bit off more than they can chew by taking this huge unification light heavyweight championship fight against Artur Beterbiev. Artur Beterbiev Is a true KO artist.
02-22-202o
Deontay Wilder & Tyson Fury are tentatively scheduled to fight each other in a highly anticipated rematch on February 22, 2020.
While the date sounds cool & talking rematch is a great way to keep getting the medi buzz and free publicity – There are so many variables to be taking into account that the chances of them fighting again in February is highly unlikely.
