Anthony Joshua says he is preparing for a tough test against Andy Ruiz Jr, but will ‘demolish’ the Mexican when the pair meet in the ring.
Joshua will defend his WBA ‘super’, IBF and WBO heavyweight belts against Ruiz Jr in his first fight in America at Madison Square Garden on June 1, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
Ruiz was named as a replacement for Jarrell Miller after the American failed a drugs test and Joshua is preparing for the fight at a Florida training camp used by former heavyweight world champion Wladimir Klitschko.
Team AJ flew in from New York and Joshua says he has been inspired by Klitschko, who recommended Miami as the perfect place to prepare for his first American test.
Speaking to Sky Sports after arriving in Miami, Joshua said: “I’m looking forward to the training camp.
“The goal is always to look above, beyond, and past anyone.
“I want to be the best, leading the pack, and not caring about who is beside me, because I want to be far ahead,
“I’m training hard, and I want to demolish Anthony Ruiz in good fashion and then I look forward to more competitive fights.
“Ruiz has never been hurt, he’s a strong guy. I’ve been hurt and people have seen me put down.
“Dillian Whyte caught me with a sweet left hook, so they have seen my weaknesses, and I haven’t really seen a weakness in Andy Ruiz.
“He’s going to try and exploit my weaknesses, and I’m going to try and exploit his.
“The best man will win and raise their hand at the end of the night and we will shake hands and go about our business.
“I’m in Miami, it’s going to be hard to stay focused but I’m going to stay focused.
“I just got here and my holiday got started, so I’m going to get my shorts on. I’m joking! I am going to stay focused, that’s the main thing.
“We could have trained in New York, but the time difference is the same and it’s a bit warmer, a bit more airy, so my coach said come here and train.
“I spoke to Wladimir Klitschko, and he trained here as well, so it’s got great history, and I know people who did it before.
