Joshua will now be defending his Super Heavyweight Championship of the World Boxing Association (WBA) against the Mexican-American native at the mythical Madison Square Garden venue on June 1st in a highly anticipated debut of Joshua on American soil.
Andy Ruiz Jr. comes into the fight on late notice but cannot be counted out, as he has deceptively fast hands and excellent boxing skills, boasting a record of 32 wins with only one lone defeat coming at the hands of Joseph Parker over two years ago.
Ruiz looks to upset the odds, as he would become the first Mexican native to become a heavyweight world champion should he pull off the monumental upset.
“AJ”, on the other hand, will fulfill the fourth defense of the crown he conquered when he defeated Wladimir Klitschko in April 2017 in a fight of the year worthy for the ages. He then successfully defended his title against Carlos Takam, Joseph Parker, and Alexander Povetkin.
The fight is presented by Matchroom Boxing in partnership with Salita Promotions and will be broadcast by DAZN (USA) and Sky Sports (United Kingdom).
