In a history-making performance, Andy Ruiz Jr. notched a seventh-round TKO over Anthony Joshua to win the WBA, IBF and WBO World Heavyweight titles on Saturday night.
The Premier Boxing Champions family would like to congratulate the NEW WBA, IBF, and WBO World Heavyweight Champion, Andy Ruiz Jr.!
Ruiz turned in a sublime performance—and turned the boxing world upside down—with a brilliant seventh-round TKO over Anthony Joshua Saturday night in New York’s Madison Square Garden. He now owns the historic distinction of being the first boxer of Mexican descent to win a world heavyweight title.
Not only does Ruiz’s win qualify as the Upset of the Year thus far, but perhaps the greatest upset since James “Buster” Douglas defeated Mike Tyson back in February 1990.
Oddsmakers had Ruiz as a 20-1 underdog against Joshua. They couldn’t have been more wrong. Ruiz dominated in every facet of the game, rising from a third-round knockdown to drop Joshua four times in all, putting him away with two knockdowns in the seventh. It was an inspirational performance that will be remembered for ages. Congratulations, champ!
