Amir Khan hasn’t realistically been a top 20 Welterweight for a long long time. Yet his name recognition gets him big fights, and is consistently landing headlines in Boxing publications.
When writing this article, I wonder about the sport and also all that cover the sport why we give this much attention to a second tier fighter that shows little class.
Khan hasn’t been a top fighter in years and looking at the current headlines, outside of Canelo and the Heavyweights, he’s getting the most attention.
It seems that everything he says earns a headline:
Says that Brook is gay- headlines
Gets elbow surgery- headlines
Says he wants to fight Brook now-headlines
I’m sure some would give him a headline for sneezing if they could.
I don’t understand the need to broadcast everything he says, it’s obvious that Amir Khan will say and do anything to stay relevant in the boxing game.
Even when he quits and disappoints he keeps getting headlines.
I don’t know how he does it, but Khan might be the best in Boxing at Getting The Press To Drink The Kool-Aid.
If he keeps getting headlines and keeps marketing himself to make money and sucker us, I guess that’s part of the game we call boxing.
I can tell you that if Amir Khan was a baseball player and had a batting average of .100, there is no way he would ever be able to talk himself out of it.
