After a back and forth battle between Golden Boy Promotions and power house streaming service application DAZN, the dust is starting to settle and Canelo Álvarez verse Gennadiy Golovkin 3 is now possible for September of this year.
Originally, Golden Boy Promotions had stated that Triple G will have to earn a fight with Canelo Alvarez by getting a middleweight title first, But with all the pressure DAZN has put on GB to make the lucrative rematch in combination with not really having another great option for Canelo for September, Oscar Dela Hoya’s promotion has it’s back against the wall.
Golden Boys last stand to possibly might not make the fight is their demand for the fight to be in Las Vegas. Triple G has stated he will fight Canelo anyplace, anytime with the exception of Las Vegas where he feels he got robbed of a victory decision not once but twice against Canelo Alverez. Most analysts believe that Triple G easily won the first fight between the two rivals.
Now it all comes down to negotiation, who is willing to fold first, Will the mediator – DAZN step in and try to see if cooler heads can prevail, it seems that everything is agreed to; opponents, the Fight & purses. Except for one problem, the location of the fight is still an issue, you would figure two fearless warriors getting paid a ton of guaranteed money wouldn’t care where the fight is taking place, but in 2019 boxing this is not the case.
In a way it does make sense that if they fight a third time it should be in a different location. I wonder what other barriers Golden Boy will present in the following weeks to avoid fighting Triple G once again.
