After HBO closed shop on its boxing Program in late 2018, a few networks saw opportunity and jumped into the complicated/ wonderful sport of Boxing.
With the sports giant ESPN fully committing to the Sport along with powerhouse Fox Sports and longtime staple – Showtime continually enlarging their yearly boxing budget, it would be surprising to hear that Application DAZN is winning the Boxing Broadcasting war.
Every month it seems, DAZN wins battles against ESPN (& it’s App-ESPN+), Fox Sports & Showtime by putting on not only more fights and complete boxing cards on TV, but DAZN’s secret is – no hidden costs. Whether it’s a regular Madison Square Garden main event headliner, or the biggest names in boxing such as Anthony Joshua, Canelo Alvarez and Triple G., they all fight live on the DAZN App. All the other platforms want to charge extra PPV money to there fans to watch the biggest fights that they can make.
DAZN came out of nowhere, in fact many people I talk to have a hard time pronouncing the name, nonetheless, DAZN continues to plug away and in less then a year, they have become the most important Network (app) to have for the boxing fan.
DAZN In partnership with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing have taken the Boxing world by storm. I think DAZN found the right promoter to partner with, as Hearn is very transparent when it comes to the boxing business. Also on the flipside, Hearn got a Network (DAZN) by his side with surprisingly deep pockets.
The Network/ promoter competition for talent is lifting Boxing to a new level.
