Back in the day, we all waited for Floyd Mayweather Jr. to pick his next opponent.
Sometimes it would take weeks and sometimes it would take months to finally officially name Money’s next opponent. Every time Floyd suggested an opponent articles would be written and people would jump the gun.
Canelo Alvarez and Golden Boy have somehow taken this tedious process to a whole new level. Between the quest of picking the weakest champion in a division inorder to be a multidivision champion, The weight manipulation and being tight in the wallet, Golden Boy has set a new low.
Golden Boy Promotions went into the business wanting to match up the best boxers on the planet and put away all the politics. Now they find themselves as the cream of the crop when it comes to playing boxing politics.
In order to avoid a September fight with Gennadiy Golovkin, Golden boy mentioned boxing champions in five different weight divisions for Canelo’s possible next opponent.
After all the dust settled, Golden Boy seeked who they thought was the weakest Champion in the light heavyweight division. They reached out to WBO light heavyweight champion Sergey Kovalevand gave him a lowball offer hoping he would cancel his homecoming fight in Russia against Anthony Yarde.
Golden boy is quickly realizing that the market for boxing champions has quickly risen as new incoming networks Are spending record amounts of money to broadcast fights. Golden Boy realized that they would be left out in the cold if they didn’t give a more reasonable offer to Kovalev.
Giving a potential star boxer an opportunity to Fight a mega-star is not enough anymore, everybody now wants the big money as promoters are quickly learning.
We thought that Canelo vs Sergey Kovalevwas all Set if Kovalev beat Yarde relatively unharmed. Kolvalev took quite a bit of punishment last week, but still wants the Canelo Fight at a date of Canelo’s choosing.
Now Golden Boy is playing The weight manipulation game and are rumored to be talking catchweight. They want Kovalev to make the quickest turnaround possible and drain himself down so much that he has no energy to throw punches.
I don’t know what game Golden Boy is playing at, but if sucking our enthusiasm for boxing is what they want they are succeeding, At a high clip I might add.

CANELO ASKING EVERYONE OUT TO THE DANCE
The biggest star in boxing is having a hard time finding someone to fight him for some reason.
Canelo Alvarez signed A lucrative five year / 11 fight / $300 million plus deal with the new powerhouse player in the boxing game – DAZN. DAZN then opened the check book and sign GGG to a monster deal as well in hopes of staging a fight between the two mega boxing stars. Canelo for his own reasons is refusing to fight Triple G and made it clear to DAZN that he won’t be told what to do.
Golden Boy went into emergency PR prevention to make Canelo seem like he’s fighting the best and not avoiding GGG.
To promote confusion, Golden Boy mentioned fighters in five weight classes: 147 Spence, 154 Munguia, 160, 168 Callum Smith and 175 Sergey Kovalev.
Errol Spence Junior passed on the fight as he was being squeezed and finally announced the fight with Shawn Porter. Munguia was mentioned as an opponent, but DAZN would not approve the fight. Golden Boy went after Kovalev, but again were tight with the wallet and Kovalev decided to take a home country fight. GB mentioned Callum Smith in the Press to impress, but never reached out to his team.
If Canelo is serious about fighting at 175, Bivol is calling him out and is willing to take the low offer GB is waving at potential Canelo opponents.
The latest dance partner to reject Canelo’s cheap advances- Sergiy Derevyanchenko. That rejection also got Canelo stripped of the IBF Middleweight Title as well.
Canelo already lost his September 14th Mexican Holiday date, now his IBF title and now is quickly chasing on hot pursuit Demetrius Andrade.
All Canelo had to do is face GGG, he would have cleared the most money, made all boxing fans happy, kept his titles and could have cemented himself as the best middleweight on the planet.
Canelo needs a Dance partner and all the singles are starting to mingle. Golden Boy’s lines ($ offered) aren’t working on these sophisticated singles (boxers available to fight).
With the IBF Title now vacant, Gennady Golovkin vs. Sergiy Derevyanchenko at MSG for the Championship seems very likely.
