Mexican Carlos Zarate, one of the mightiest punchers in history, made the first defense of his bantamweight title, defeating Paul Ferreri by TKO in the 12th round, after Referee Richard Steele stopped the bout. Ferreri was born in Aidone, Sicily. He was naturalized as Australian. The fight took place at the Inglewood Forum in California.
