Manny Pacquiao & José Carlos Ramírez are July 2019 Boxing Action Magazine Boxers of the Month.
Honorable Mentions for July 2019 Top Performances: Gervonta Davis
As we mourn the deaths of Maxim Dadashev & Hugo Santillán who suffered in ring head injuries in July and the passing of Boxing Great Pernell Whitaker, we also recognize the outstanding performances of Manny Paquiao & José Carlos Ramírez.
Jose Ramirez stopped Mighty Mo Maurice Hooker in Six action packed rounds in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, July 27th.
It was two undefeated Jr. Welterweight Champions in their prime going at it and unifying two out of the four major titles in the sport of boxing. Thought neither Ramirez nor Hooker are household names yet, most boxing fans knew this was going to be an amazing showdown and the boxing world was a Buzz all week long anticipating the contest.
If there was ever a 50-50 fight, this was it as these champions are not only evenly matched, but also two of the nicest people to be around – outside of the ring.
Both fighters where in Prime condition when they stepped into the ring, both fighters were ready for a war and looking for a KO.
Ramirez came out with something to prove. Ramirez was the lion in the rings and refused to be denied. He might have won all six rounds with the exception of a close 3rd were both fighters had their moments.
Jose Ramirez along with his trainer Robert Garcia and his team were laser focused on glory. Watching Ramirez bouncing in the ring, moving side-to-Side, letting his hands go, being the aggressor and punching with mean intentions tells you that he trained for this fight like it was everything.
Ramirez scored a TKO of Hooker in the 6th round; and thank goodness the referee was able to jump in when he did. Boxing is a vicious sport boy.
Jose Ramirez’s performance earns him The Boxing Action Magazine Boxer of the Month Award as the champion catapults himself to #11 on the P4P list and also becomes the top dog at 140 pounds.
Congratulations Jose Ramirez!!!
Manny Pacquiao at age 40, puts on another memorable performance as he beats young undefeated champion Keith Thurman in Las Vegas on July 20th.
Boxing’s only 8 division champion said that Keith Thurman is one of the biggest challenges and that he was prepared to put on a show. Many were holding their collective breath asking themselves if this was the night Manny Pacquiao would grow old in front of our eye as he fights the undefeated young lion/ champion who was talked about as the #1 P4P boxer on the planet two years ago when he beat Showtime Shawn Porter and took Puerto Rico’s Danny Garcia’s O away.
Even the diehard Pacquiao fans thought Thurman would edge the fight out. Boy did Pacquiao put on a show. Pacquiao knocked down Thurman in round one and in the middle rounds, Pacquiao’s speed at times had Thurman shocked and confused like a deer caught in headlights.
Just as outstanding is that Pacquiao ate a lot of big power shots from Thurman and kept bouncing and boxing like a 25 year old future star.
Both Champions in the end showed spectacular sportsmanship and the fans walked away knowing they got their money’s worth and saw something special.
Manny Pacquiao’s performance earns him The Boxing Action Magazine Boxer of the Month Award as the champion maintains his spectacular #3 spot on the P4P list and also becomes the talk of the Boxing World again.
Congratulations Manny Pacquiao!!!
