WBC Featherweight World Champion Gary Russell Jr. defends his 126-pound title against former World Champ Kiko Martinez at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY:
Gary Russell Jr. comes out with a beautiful African warrior tribe being lead by a young tradition drummer. Russell dressed in the Leonard Warrior African outfit as he even carries his Shield into the ring. Absolutely beautiful.
Round 1.
Gary Russell Junior using very good distance and footwork to control the fight. Russell’s speed and power are tremendous. Martinez had a pretty good round, landing a few very good shots. Russell seems very susceptible upstairs. It will be an interesting fight.
Round 2.
Excellent round for Russell. Russell’s speed is simply much too much for Martinez to handle. Very dominate round for Russell, Martinez did zero in round 2.
Round 3.
Martinez hanging in tough. After Russell let his hands go for the first two minutes, Martinez had some very good flurries in the last 45 seconds.
Round 4.
Gary Russell’s speed and movement continues to be the story of this fight.
I also want to point out that the Showtime Broadcast Team are doing a terrific job of calling the fight.
Round 5.
Kiko Martinez suffers a bad cut on his left eye and the doctor stops the fight.
Winner by TKO Gary Russell Jr.
Other Action from the Barclays Center:
JUAN HERALDEZ vs ARGENIS MENDEZ – 140 pound contest
Mendez from Brooklyn N.Y. & Undefeated Heraldez is from the Mayweather Money Team from Las Vegas:
After a feel out round he Younger Heraldez is showing off his quickness as the former champion/ Mendez is the aggressor.
Heraldez boxing well in the early rounds. The 5th round was the most exciting round as both guys landed some big shots with Mendez getting the better of the exchanges.
The second half of the fight was pretty exciting with good action from both fighters. Both fighters have hurt the other throughout the bout.
Round 10. Heraldez playing the final round safe, moving and holding as he seems happy with getting out of Brooklyn with a decision. Excellent round for Mendez, based on the action in the fight, it wouldn’t be shocking to record a 10-8 round for Mendez in round 10.
And we go to the Score Cards: Draw
Excellent decision!!
