Some of the biggest battles in boxing are done behind the scenes. As Canelo celebrates his new record breaking contract with DAZN, there is major trouble brewing.
Unlike Gennady Golovkin and Anthony Joshua who will take on anyone to show the world and themselves they’re the best, Canelo is a bit more cautious and moves at his own pace.
Canelo has been the A-Side ever since facing Miguel Cotto and he has set the dates, Opponents, weight and every detail that he wished for including the money split between the fighters. He has worked hard to get the privilege of being in complete control and Canelo and Golden Boy don’t see it any different.
DAZN is throwing out big money at prize fighters hoping to make some of the biggest fights in boxing. Instead of putting those fights on PPV they are hoping people will subscribe to DAZN and pay the monthly or yearly fee. DAZN wants to make the fights exclusively on DAZN and are guaranteeing some of boxing’s stars big money.
To entice these boxing superstars to sign with DAZN they are giving them multi fight contracts with some of the fights being tuneup fights but getting mega fight money.
With that said, DAZN needs to please the fans and give them the big match-ups to get new subscribers. DAZN thinks their in charge of the fighters they have contracted and can make fights as they please. Canelo thinks he’s still in charge and does what he wants.
Bottom Line:
DAZN wants Canelo vs GGG at 160 in September.
Canelo does not want that fight in 2019.
