From Fresno, California, José Ramirez (22-0) took on fellow undefeated Junior Welterweight Antonio Orozco (27-0)
This is why we watch boxing. Why we love boxing. Two undefeated in their prime, in tiptop shape boxers going at it toe to toe, skill to skill. What an amazing first round as these two young lions go at it toe to toe. It’s Ramirez’s length and strength against Orozco’s (also strong)natural boxing talent. Round two was also sensational with Orozco’s punches sometimes being wide. Ramirez starts taking over the fight in round three by clearly winning it and knocks down Orozco in round four, Orozco smart in taking the nine count, comes back strong. Great great Round Four. Ramirez landing the heavy shots in round five. Orozco is going to have to make some very quick adjustments if he’s going to last in this fight and make it a fight of the year candidate. Orozco makes some nice adjustments in rounds 6 and 7, but still taking the heavier shots. Crazy 8th round (similar to round 4, but more intense). Orozco in amazing shape, wins round 9. After Orozco wins the first half of round 10, fighters exchange some very very heavy punches for almost two minutes. Round 10 makes this fight, a fight of the year candidate and one of the best rounds I have ever seen!!! Wow. Round 11: Ramirez gets his second wind and lets the leather fly. Orozco is a TRUE Mexican Warrior. Ramirez finishes the fight strong, Orozco took heavy punishment through 12 rounds but stood tall.
Ramirez retains his Junior Welterweight Title.
Tomorrow night is the super fight: Canelo vs GGG. This will be a huge fight for both fighters as they are separated by eight years in age, A Win for GGG will catapult him into a very crowded, best of all time middleweight ranking. A win for Canelo will put him on the map as a great fighter, just because he is popular and the current number one box office draw, does not automatically make him great. The great Roman Gonzalez will also be fighting on the card. Up and coming Jaime Munguia also on the card.
I will be covering tomorrow nights boxing action here on The Sweet Science FB Page.
